has this got any legs? I for one will be outraged if we lose vdv and modric, will completely fudge us over.

Here's the quote from their manager:

"His qualities are tremendous. Schalke won't say no to Van der Vaart, I still know him from our mutual stay at Hamburger SV and would like to join forces with him again. We are in contact with his agent. I'm on holiday right now, but I'm in touch with Schalke GM Horst Heldt on a daily basis about our plans."

"I don't know how Raf himself feels about a return to Germany. I haven't spoken him yet, he's with his mind on the Euros. His agreement with Tottenham is still running, so it seems that we have to pay a transfer sum in case he would come.

"Let's be clear: if Rafa really wants to come, he's more than welcome. If we have this opportunity to contract him, which looks quite reasonable, we won't miss our chance. The attacking midfielder-position, it is possible to shuffle within our squad. Julian Draxler, for example, is only eighteen years old, while Van der Vaart is a very experienced player."

So definately interest but no negotiations yet.

Despite Van der Vaart's insistence that he is not looking to leave Spurs, his agent Robert Geerlings recently confirmed that the Bundlesliga side were interested in the Netherlands international.
And Stevens, who coached Van der Vaart at Hamburg back in 2008, admitted he would love to be reunited with the former Real Madrid midfielder.
"His qualities are tremendous," Stevens told Voetbal International. "Schalke won't say no to Van der Vaart, I still know him from our mutual stay at Hamburger SV and would like to join forces with him again. We are in contact with his agent. It was reported is Das Bild five days ago, they also quoted Spurs as looking at Luuk de Jong, Daimiao , Anelka, Gaston Ramirez and Milos Krasic and finish the article with a classic line of "Spurs only play in the Europa League next season and must plan without CL money. Therefore a few million from Schalke for VDV will come at the right time."

What you have to remember is that Das Bild is Germany's Sun or Daily Star.

I know everyone thinks there's no chance of VDV leaving but the fact there is a very strong lure for him and his wife to Germany combined with him saying 'anything is possible' rather than completely writing it off does make me wonder.....

Is there? If I were Sylvie van der Vaart I'd infinitely rather live in London than Gelsenkirchen

Tbh it seems a fair comment when you look at the investment needed in the squad.

I love VDV and would be sad to see him go, but think he is an upgradable player. Would love someone with pace and who drives at defences playing in the hole. Eriksen springs to mind straight away!

Here's a brave man, putting his reputation(!) on the line:

Date: 8th June 2012
ITK: adiepf
Player: Harry Redknapp

Harry will be removed at some point this weekend....

So this is clear, by monday morning H will be gone....

Ill be back monday, if this doesnt happen then the mods can ban me simple ...this idnt rumour, this weekend he is gone!!!!

Still Monday morning and we're all waiting......

We can't blame an ITK if Spurs havent got round to announcing Harry's departure yet. These are complex matters, they've got to sort the currency of Redknapp's settlement, fx rates, does he still want it paid into Rosie47 etc. It's a complicated business that we can't even hope to understand.

I reckon he must be flicking through his standard issue ITK "Book of flimflam Reasons for Delayed Transfers"

- Medical? No, fudge
- Everything finalised, will go through shortly? I said this weekend, damn.
- Sacked behind closed doors? Can't get away with that.
- Currency conversion? Not applicable.
- Lunar winds? Maybe.
- Could I get away with saying it's because Levy's Mum died?

I agree, sometimes I overlook these things myself.

I think vdV is flakey. He could easily be saying he's staying while negotiating with Schalke. Not dishonest as much as just a bit of an airhead with quite a lot of vanity.
