Set-Piece - Shooting Specialist

Yeah, today we actually looked dangerous on several occations, and should have scored a few. Set piece delivery definitely improved today.

Our set pieces were actually fairly good today. Looked a bit dangerous. Bale cross bar. Bale's shot at the end. Gallas with a very good chance.

I wish we could do that more often.

We have looked very dangerous the last couple of games.

VdV's far post corners are very dangerous, especially when we stack up with players like Ade, Nelsen and Kaboul. As long as we can bother the keeper enough, those players will always be able to compete for the ball.

I was pleased with the improvement in the corners yesterday - I remember thinking to myself, that VDV's corners were looking more and more dangerous and thought about this thread, and then at that moment Ade scored from a corner!

Then the commentator mentioned that it was our first goal in one hundred and thirty something corners! :-s - that must be premier league only - obviously as Nelsen got one in the cup....

It is incredible how bad we have been at corners. If I see Luka take another short one I think I might run out and slap him, Tango Man style, with a program or whatever I can get my hands on.

The fact that Rafa has finally learnt to beat the first man is something of a revelation for us. Long may it continue. The biggest bonus is that it turns set pieces into a threat. We could push for corners all day in the past and the opposition wouldn't feel under the cosh as we'd just pass the ball out and continue trying to find a route in, instead of barraging the goal.

We have enough options when it comes to free kicks. I think we have been a little unlucky with some but I think we have made some poor choices of kickers. I've seen Bale, VDV, Kaboul, Modric, BAE all have a go from a free kick and even Adebayor, Lennon and Defoe go sniffing.

Bale and Kaboul offer power, but Bale can make the ball move (dip and swerve). No point trying that from the edge of the box, that's where you need Van Der Vaart. Thought Kaboul hits it harder than anyone so I would say a piledriver at a between two defenders heads is going to give then something to think about.

Don't think it helps chopping and changing like the corners I think we should leave it to one or two players like VDV. Oh and if you stick Bale and Kaboul then the keeper has to be ready for a cross if the two of them are standing over the ball then clearly it's a shot and he will be expecting it.

One solution to our problem: Buy Falcao. The guy is a fudging beast in the air!

Kaboul REALLY needs one of his to go in soon, or else I fear he may never feel confident enough to take one ever again... and that will be a shame!

LOL! I would love to know if he has actually hit one in during training as I honestly can't remember one of his efforts even being on target!

The only one I've seen on of his on target ironically was against us for Portsmouth - although that got a deflection and Gomes pulled off a worldie.
