Rodrigo Bentancur

What’s the consensus on Bentancur’s best position in Ange’s system? I still think it might be 6 - I don’t think he has the legs to get up and down as an 8, and whilst he’s not a ball winner like Bissouma, I actually think he’s more disciplined and/or intelligent defensively. And he has decent press resistance and passing.

Also with Bergvall coming in, presumably as an 8, Bentancur playing there too will give him less opportunities (presuming he’s ready for some first team gametime).

I think he can do both. I don't think there is a consensus.

A fully fit Bentancur was a beast in Conte's two man midfield. I'd he can get back to that level of fitness I definitely think he has the legs to get up and down as an 8.

A fully fit Bentancur is also an excellent tackler/ball winner imo. Important in both positions.

More of a natural fit for the 8 role imo, but could see him adjusting really well to the 6 role as well. Positionally the 8 role is more similar to what he's done before and on the ball it's also imo more similar. What we do in the transfer market will probably tell us more about what Ange thinks on this.

Just to be clear I rate Bentancur very highly. I think he grabs a spot in the regular starting line up almost no matter what. Others may not rate Bentancur quite as highly as I do.

Another sign I am getting old.

Number 4: Alan Mullery, Nobby Stiles, Billy Bremner
Number 6: Phil Beal, Bobby Moore, Norman Hunter, Chopper Harris
Number 8: Jimmy Greaves, Allan Clarke, Kevin Keegan
Number 10: Glenn Hoddle, Platini, El Veg, Bobby Charlton, Liam Brady (there, I said it)

The "number six" and "number eight" things seem wrong to me. Yes, I know Greaves wore number 10 sometimes but I still think of him as a number 8.

(A bit off-topic; sorry).

Yeah I always saw 4 as DM and 5 and 6 as CBs. Don’t know if 6 being a DM is a continental thing?

Here we go, it was clearly a bit of banter, people really do get upset over anything these days.
It is no different than if he had said all black people look the same, and you think that is just banter?????

If it was just banter while did he feel the need to apologise publicly?

Could be wrong, but pretty sure @Yiddo is saying this in reference to what some were saying on here regarding Maupay/Maddison....

Why would he be saying about that in the Bentancur thread? It's clearly in reference to what Bentancur said.
Because with what Maupay did a few on here were dismissing it as 'just a bit of banter'.

I am guessing that whilst this is far worse, he is saying the exact same thing to make a point but again, I could be wrong.....
