Priorities

Billy your changing goalposts mate our previous European cup wins are engrained in our history so of course you wouldn't swap them no. The Europa League winner receives about 20% of what you'd get for finishing 4th.

Im just trying to work out the logic mate is all - at the time you would presumably rather have won the FA Cup than any of the euro cups, given the choice? But with hindsight you wouldnt, is that a fair assessment? And what has money got to do with a 'traditional fans' look at whats important? A cup is a cup

So in reality there aint much difference other than personal preference.

The chance to win a 4th European trophy and cement our place as Londons no.1 European side is something id love to see - 4 times as many Euro trophies as The Scum and back in front of Chelsea - I need TP for my bunghole!

Yep it's interesting that many fans look on money as vital in assessing their priorities, yet many fans don't want a billionaire owner chucking money at us.

I want a billionaire owner with money to spend and trophies and indeed CL.

1. League

2.= FA Cup/Europa.

Both the cups are of equal importance to me. The chance to beat Lyon who have a big european pedigree and face Inter again is a big thing for us as a club. In the same breath, if we get a a decent draw today in the FA Cup then suddenly we are looking at being virtually in round 5, just a couple of steps away from wembley again.

If I was really pushed then I want us to finally win a Semi Final and get back to Wembley for an FA Cup final after 6 false starts over the last 20 years.

How can anybody's priority be finishing fourth?
FOURTH?
Priority is to become the best team in the land first and foremost. We will see whether we are or not on 20 January.
I do not want any more Redknapp style horsebrick player selections for cup games and am confident there won't be under AVB.

It must be easier to win the FA Cup than the EL too

Both trophies would be nice, but I'll take the FA Cup please

Ticketing from a EL final will no doubt be a massive farce too

Therefore FA Cup should be our second priority, behind doing the best we can do in the PL

I'd rather win the FA Cup over the EL yes but obviously wouldn't swap our European trophies (When they were considered good enough to win)

You'd like a billionaire owner? I couldn't want anything less at my club and I'm amazed people do.

I think that the people who are putting fourth above one of the cups would argue that this would be a bigger help in us achieving that

The priority for us has to the league and champions league qualification.

This doesn't mean that money is more important than trophies, but the money is needed to progress and get better players. We can prioritize the cups all we like, but we still probably won't win them while other clubs can afford better players. With regular Champions League football we could afford better players and have a better chance in the cups.

I can see the danger of this argument. We get regular CL football and then the priority is to keep it and we turn into Wengers. But with a better squad we would be in a better position to challenge all round, so then winning something becomes more important, even at the risk of missing our on the CL sometimes.

What can Arsenal realistically win this season?

League Cup - No

Premier League - No
Champions League - No

FA Cup - Yes

Let's prioritise it so that they go over 8 years

The priority is the league, not finishing fourth. Fourth or trophy is a completely different discussion.

If we were mid table like, say, Liverpool, I'd want us to go for a cup (rest players in league games for big cup ties), but when we can fight for the top places and European qualification, that is more important to me.

I want to see Spurs lift the European Cup sometime in the next decade or so. To get there we need to add a few quality players to our squad to allow us to compete on all fronts throughout the season. The extra income from qualifying for the CL is essential in making that happen.

In the short term the league needs to be the priority if there are conflicting games, however long term with a stronger squad regular silverware becomes a more realistic prospect.

I hate all this talk about 4th place like it's a trophy, it isn't, it's just a means to an end. It's not about 4th place it's about winning things in the future. Moving forward as a club.

All of the English clubs that have won the CL in recent years have also won FA cups, becoming one of those top clubs is what the priority should be. The possibility that could be replacing Arsenal would make it all the sweeter!
There's a lesson to be learned from them though, 14 years of CL income (about £250m!) and no CL win, no success in 8 years and the weakest squad they've ever had. That's what aiming for 4th gets you long term.

It's not a simple case of which competition you prioritise, it's how the games fall, there's more likelihood of being a conflict between a midweek EL game and a league game, so if something has to give it got to be the EL. AVB has to look at the next 2 or 3 games and plan accordingly.

Just one thought on last season, the FA cup defeat to Chelsea really hurt us.

Fair enough, I'm amazed that people don't want one, but that's their prerogative.

Interesting though that some people want CL money, but not billionaire money.

I don't agree, and as I said I'd rather have trophies than the money.

CL money is money that you've worked hard for over 38 seasons and DESERVE. Billionaire money is like being given handouts when you don't deserve it.

It shouldn't be. For the record i'll go with

League
Europa
Fa cup
League cup

However that's winning the league. fudge aiming for fourth. We should be trying to do the best we can in the league as a priority to all of those other competitions.
