No, but he's also the one who got us from lower mid table mediocrity to feeling a season outside the top 5 is a downright disaster. Some perspective.

Tel not wanting to sign for us is systematic of the problem. We have needed to sign outfield players ever since before the transfer window opened. So far we have signed zero. We have failed to find a solution to a pressing need and that immediately leads to the asking of big questions about how Levy and the transfer committee conducts their business.

Tel, if considered a target in that alternative scenario of our being more successful, would more likely have been keen to sign for us for the exciting project that he would have seen and not the sinking ship that we are in reality.

Those questions will have a serious bearing on whether players will want to join. And as we can see, we don’t seem to be all that irresistible right now.

Two separate issues

- Us not buying until now (if we do) is a problem
- Tel is clearly an opportunistic look, unless you think United/whoever else that is suddenly involved was also sleeping on him? he's a Bayern prospect that is frustrated with game time, opportunity came up, we made a go and offered asking, player declined.

Real Madrid & Barca are the only irresistible clubs in the world, we are more than a stepping stone (like a Brighton) but not quite elite, VDV, Porro, Vic, Bergvall, Udogie all got national team call ups and way more recognition in a very short space of time, players like Solanke & Maddison got back in from the cold (Maddison due to his own form lost it again). There is a story to tell, is it like City where we pay you a ton of cash and you win trophies even if you get splinters in your ass? no .. but that's fudging Lange's job.
