Poor league results

So you are into knowing ones self i see.

I work for a major energy supplier in the UK dealing with Ombudsman cases, both current and potential, and I spend a large part of my day reading ridiculous knee-jerk emails from people majorly kicking off over the smallest, most inconsequential of things so I often chuckle when I read those sort of rants and posts on forums. Believe me, I absolutely get that we all need to let off steam and have a rant every now and then but sometimes I think it'd be really funny to email some of the ranters' emails back to them, say, 6 months later just so they can re-read the nonsense they've typed up and see what over-dramatic drama queens they have been. I find it quite funny when that sort of thing happens on here - I can imagine the OPs squirming when they re-read some of their 'carefully considered' views :).

It was so much easier and less embarrassing back in the day 'cos we could say something fudging daft in a rant to our partners/mates/work colleagues and it would generally be forgotten in a matter of minutes/hours but not any more - it's there in black and white to taunt us much later down the line.

I'd hate to think how embarrassing it'd be if someone came up to me now with reams of pages containing all of the dumbass things I'd said over the years. I'm pretty sure I would laugh at most of it but there would definitely be some shockers in there lol

Don't get me wrong, I love the internet but it now seems to be a case of 'rant first - think later (or not at all' for a lot of people.

Thank you for this thread, it's made me glad that I'm old lol :)

Must be the silly season. Someone remind me how much Man Utd are paying Alexis Sanchez? No way can we compete with those kinda wages. We've seen no movement in the transfer market. Forget champions league football next season folks.

Why because we aren't throwing money around in January at players we can't fit into our team? This is the most ridiculous thread on GG, which is quite an achievement.

So what are you saying in that post? Seems pretty clear to me; no top four if we don't spend money.
It's pretty clear what I am saying; money has spoiled the game and I am losing interest. The amount of money some of these players are earning are obscene. You are deluded if you think we can win the league in the future when the likes of City, Man Utd, Chelsea are paying silly money.

Anomoly or not, it happened. A season after being promoted, and with a bang average squad. They hit the ground running, got lucky on other teams faltering, and managed to ride the wave.

I see absolutely no reason why we couldnt do similar.

The difference between then and now the likes of Emirates Marketing Project, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea have all strengthened their squad. I would argue Liverpool are a stronger unit than Spurs this season. We are struggling to maintain the top four position. Don't expect another Leicester to come along anytime soon and win the league. Unless you have the financial clout you will struggle to compete. Where is the fairness in that? That whole game is corrupt.

The game is corrupt. And money talks. However, the beauty of sport is that there are times when that just doesnt matter.

We arent a huge way behind the rich clubs in this division on the field, so I see no reason why we cant have a season that goes our way.

For someone losing interest in football you dont half seem to get your knickers in a twist when we drop some points
Why? Does it rile you up to see someone vent their frustration with the way money and commercialism has spoiled the beautiful game? Maybe this thread isn't for you.

Money has always been at the forefront of footballing success - only now it's more out in the open.

I was more interested in why someone who has written off any hope of us ever succeeding cares so much when we drop points

Yeah right because money in football is a new phenomenon....50k a week ten years ago was just as obscene as 400k a week is nowadays.

Leicester won it two seasons ago with nothing, we've finished close to winning it for the last seasons spending next to nothing.

We were not that far away from winning the League last season. Just got unlucky that Cheatski had no European distractions, like Leicester the season before.

Maybe we should deliberately fudge up in the run in this time round in order to ensure we're out of Europe next season. But knowing our luck even if we finish 7th one of the others would win the CL and we'd still end up qualifying for the damn Europa.

You misunderstood me. I have not written us off. I am just stating the obvious. There's no level playing field in top-flight football because of financial doping. Even Arsense Wenger agrees:

Arsene Wenger: Arsenal boss says Europe's 'big five' leagues 'being destroyed'

Competition in Europe's biggest leagues is being "destroyed" by clubs who have "huge financial power", says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Frenchman Wenger pointed to examples in France, Germany, England and Spain.

Paris St-Germain are 11 points clear in Ligue 1, Bayern Munich have a 16-point advantage in the Bundesliga and Emirates Marketing Project are 15 points ahead at the top of the Premier League.

Wenger said it was clear that "unpredictability has gone down".

He added: "When you look at the five big leagues in Europe, in December we already knew four champions.

"That means something is not right in our game. The huge financial power of some clubs is basically destroying the competition."

That's been the case since more than one team qualified for the Champions League. We could have won the league last season and financial doping was no different then.

We are doing things the right way, have a great team and the club is moving forward faster than it has for decades. If you are unhappy now, you will be inconsolable when the good times are over.
