If you accept the government figures on unemployment, it is at very low levels. Now, not all unemployed are "work-shy scum" not even the most ardent right-winger believes that. So with very low levels of unemployment, coupled with only a fraction of those unemployed actually being "workshy scum", how then would these people assume the roles that migrant labour has been doing?
It's just nonsense to suggest that there is this army of idle people ready to fill vacancies in care work or whatever else.
Most people who get some kind of benefit are in work already.
Never had a problem with low paid workers getting council tax relief or tax credits top ups, if they are working but I have to disagree with you I have met plenty who dont work and dont want to work. I am very liberal in many ways but when it comes to work (and crime funny enough) I am very much to the right. Now @Gutter Boy is actually my favourite poster on this site but I am the complete opposite to him when it comes to work. I understand the reasons behind his thinking a 4 day working week is a good thing.
But it is central to everything I believe in that a person should work and actually work long hours, particularly when young, as I said I think it is character building, it is about more then just working and earning money, it teaches you so much more about life, it really is good for the soul. As I have said many times on here over the years I am very good friends with a Latvian guy, I know several east europeans, they are all stand up guys and bloody hard workers and stand up guys. Would rather work with them and spend time with them then some of the work shy scum I come across.
