Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

You sound a little sceptical, waste of time in your opinion?
I don't think it's ever a waste of time to track expenditure and remove unnecessary or duplicative costs, as long as there's a clear understanding of why that expenditure is there in the first place.
But this is just performative. They already know what they want to find imo (including DEI costs, immigration-related costs, and so on) - I don't for one moment believe they will be doing a true analysis of value for money across contracted suppliers and service providers.
And when they find they can't get all the info they want, probably for good reason, they'll cry foul play.

On a side note....'ambition' will usually struggle without cold hard cash. Especially if you want to go down the genuine and honest route also.

True but they are investing a fair bit and even then there's reforms they could go ahead with. Not saying these are earth shattering but lots of little things add up. Just frustrating that they're not showing more ambition when they have such a large majority and a country that in the main would embrace some bigger changes.

Like Musk in America, it’s the appearance of doing something without any analysis of what the consequences might be.

Unsure if this is the right thread, but reports in the Sunday Times today that the MoD are in advanced sensitive talks with the US to agree a deal to purchase a squadron of F35As (we currently only use the F35B which is the STOVL version) and an associated stockpile of B61 thermonuclear gravity bombs (which the F35A can deploy but the F35B can't). These are tactical battlefield nuclear warheads.

This has come out of the strategic defence review and would plug a gap in tactical nuclear strike capability.

Would represent a return to aircraft launched nuclear strike capability after a circa 30 year gap and the most significant uplift in any western country's nuclear weapons capability since the cold war.
Well we are building 3 Nuclear factories right now
Barely a column inch on them anywhere

I see a couple of kids identity being kept secret after one murdered an old man in a racist attack. A 15 year old got 7 years custody and the girl who was 12 and filmed at the time got zero custodial sentence.

2 tier system favoring people from bad cultures wasn't it Chich lmao

The dude was still searching for that evidence about the EU as he was smug about being right whilst declaring completely unfounded nonsense. Evidently the chap got distracted showing off about earning pretend money to a bunch of strangers online. Stay tuned for more updates as and when possible.

It's interesting to see the opinions of those I don't agree with but some just aren't worth the time if unable to discuss anything with any kind of sincerity. My boss at one my the jobs described Trump as exactly what the USA needs to get back to their glory days and described the move to block travel from 12 countries as a good move. It's better to ask questions to understand rather than scold people for being fudging macarons, but some really make it tough!

I mean I showed him statistically a higher proportion of white men are pedos than Pakistani men and he ran off.

Truth isn't his thing. Which is why the truth seeker discord makes me chuckle so much

Why does miliband want every new home to have solar? In winter it basically doesn't work in the uk. When we need power to heat homes.
Heat pumps i could understand.

Heat pumps have the same problem as solar: heat pumps work by essentially using a refrigerant to absorb inherent heat from the air and convert this into a gas through a heat exhanger that heats the water in the hot water system:
- in summer the air is warm so this process is efficient.
- in winter the air is cold so there is far less inherent warmth to convert to energy and the process is far less efficient.

So the comparative efficiency ratings of a heat pump boiler vs. gas boiler are hugely skewed as they use an average over the year but don't account for the fact that the only thing that impacts the efficiency of a gas boiler is wear and tear/servicing while a heat pump efficiency is at its worse during the period you want to use it the most.

That's why many people that have a heat pump say they haven't seen the reduction in energy bills promised (as the reduction in gas bill is offset by an increase in electricity usage as the pump, which is a huge-energy hungry piece of kit in itself, has to work overtime during winter months to generate enough heat).

Heat pump manufacturers and installers love them as they are hugely expensive, complicated and less reliable than gas boilers (due to the complexity) so they make a sh*t tonne of money via installation and maintenance work.

On flip side they do not emit like a gas boiler does. So they are greener from that perspective...

....so if you want to be greener and can:
- get hold of a sh** tonne of money
- have a well insulated modern house
- don't mind having a colder shower and being a bit less toasty during winter
- have space in your house or an outbuilding for a massive f***-off water cylinder
- have space outside your house and dont mind having a huge, ugly, noisy machine
- are prepared to suck up significant maintenance costs

Then heat pumps are probably for you.....

Was thinking more the ones that get the heat from the ground.

Was thinking more the ones that get the heat from the ground.
These are less common (and would be even more horrific to maintain (as anyone that has experienced a drainage issue will attest). But the ones that use ground bored loops will be more insulated from seasonal changes ultimately they're still dealing with the starting point of the heat or moisture level in the ground, which again is seasonal (and efficiency will drop seasonally). Some ground bored systems use water from local sources which again will start off with the water temperature.....
