Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Sums up my attitude to that right wing grub completely.

Yet I still back him and like him. He is leagues better than Johnson and friends. Has morals, an ability to govern, make rational decisions, and be decent. He is playing the game. He has to take votes from the Tories.

I just find it funny how little there is to identify him. Comics have nothing. He is so bland! Which after what we've had over the past years is probably no bad thing. The way to look at Starmer from a left-wing perspective is he will deliver a far more decent government than the Conservatives, and he is a socialist all be it more center than left. But you have to work from a certain place - that place is a country who is ingrained into a right-wing setup. The only way to change that is by increments. And by getting into number 10.

I've never understood socialists who'd almost prefer a Tory win to a centrist socialist win. The Conservatives have a history of massive division in their ranks. Pro and anti-EU factions and internal wrangling just caused our nation to leave the EU while they sorted out their internal divisions - Brexit is a consequence of Tory infighting, imposed on the nation. BUT when it comes to elections they pull together and present a unified front to defeat the opposition, because they prefer a right winger over a left winger. UK socialists are either too principled or too stupid, as they don't seem to be able to emulate this; and we end up with right-wing governments.

I genuinely think Starmer would be the first PM in my lifetime who I'd regard as a decent human being. Even if he is backtracking on nationalisation and green energy.

This. Absolutely.

One option (not saying i desire it) is to push VAT to 25% to curb spending. wouldn't surprise me to see that as an option
LOL.

Think it would have to be more nuanced than that.

Probably something like reduce it to 10/15% on things you need and raise it to 25/30% on the things you want.

Otherwise you've just raised the price of everything for everyone instantly by 5%....when everyone is struggling with price rises.

I don't see too much difference in a right wing Starmer government and the Tories right now.
That's because the Tories keep taking all our money and spaffing it up the wall - just like Labour.

So the only really difference is that the Tories aren't controlled by the unions and Just Stop Oil. That's just enough for me, even though they're doing a terrible job of controlling either of them.

You know what everyone selling those things with reduced VAT will do with their prices, right?

No, they aren't are they. Instead they are controlled by billionaires and the corporate establishment.
