Your example would be fine, if it's ridiculing the negative colonial behaviour - which is exactly what Kumar did.
If Kumar or your hypothetical example were being triumphant, then it would be different. The line between satire and reality is usually uncomfortable, because it's making fun of real life whilst simultaneously shining a light on uncomfortable truths.

Context is always important and relevant when it comes to jokes and comedy in general. Not sure if it’s immediately obvious he is referencing colonialism in his tweet but I might be wrong. Just pointing out that if this were the other way round, the reaction would have been a lot stronger and I think We all know that.

Im not offended by it. But there’s no way the left would be so causal about it if Jimmy Carr made a similar joke about other ethnic groups. In fact, his last special caused quite a storm with many asking Netflix to remove it. Nadine Dorries even got involved and said they would start sanctioning streaming companies like Netflix. I mean WTF!

Just noticed my MP is amongst them. Yet even as late as this morning, his twitter profile pic was a photo of him and Boris. Others around him were resigning so I guess he's reading the waters.

Ah - just seen it was a shared resignation letter by a few ministers and far from scathing in tone. He has changed his profile pic though.

You’re ire with the left is clouding your thinking. It’s pretty boring for people of colour to either be told to be offended by Ricky Gervais or to stay in line with our humour by white people just for political points scoring.

The key bit of context here being Nish Kumar.
In your example you are right the reaction would be different if the joke was delivered by Eddie Izzard, compared with Jim Davidson.

I think the rules should be the same for every comedian and everyone in general. I always thought the goal was to have a colourblind society but it seems like we’ve taken a backward step in the last decade or so.

Who has told you the goal was a "colourblind society"? The idea of whitewashing race as an endgame seems an odd one.
