Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I think the current govt is further to the right than that one was.

Thatchers doctrine was primarily economic, not nationalistic.

Depends on the metric. Furlough was pure socialism no? The amount this government are spending it could be associated with socialism (tho I don't know why). Traditionally the left spend the right tighten the belt. This government are spending far more than the last Labour government did for example. Different measures...

This lot don't understand conservatism at all.

They're far too big state both socially and economically.

Funny how everything those opposed to Brexit said would happen is now unfolding in front of our eyes - it was all dismissed as "scaremongering" at the time be Leavers.

And who is still to blame in their eyes? Brussels, of course!

It would be funny if it wasn't helping to completely fudge the country's economy.

I work a lot with people across Europe and the situation is precisely the same across the board.

Funny how everyone supporting Brexit knew every unrelated ill would be blamed on it by swivel-eyed remainders.....

what's really funny is we're expecting bigger inflation (9% UK vs 6% in EU) and a slower GDP growth compared to EU. Again, where's this Brexit bonus if we're seeing higher inflation and lower growth? Must be alongside that EU money we're funding out NHS with...

Edit:
Here are the figures for inflation in April over 12 months for the G7, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI):

  • UK 9%
  • USA 8.3%
  • Germany 7.4%
  • Canada April data not yet released but was 6.7% in March
  • Italy 6.2%
  • France 4.8%
  • Japan's data will be out on Friday and is expected to be 2.1%

Go through the threads and you will see I’m anti Brexit

but blaming Brexit for some of the stuff going on now is mad, we shut down the world for 2 years, printed money, gave it away and disrupted supply chains - I would say that has a lot more to do with the mess we are in than Brexit

Indeed, but you know haters have to hate no matter what.

Think his point was about the Brexit benefit. As the whole world has had covid that shouldn’t make a difference. But rather than the UK looking better off if anything we look like we’re worse off than others.

Have people given up on the Brexit Bonus or just think it will be arriving next year?

They've only just started working on legislation to replace that from the EU now haven't they?
