It's floated around the number 1 spot for years and been in the top 10 almost every year for a long time. Often cited by alarmist on the right that we are being taken over and reality is that the figures are skewed by a variety of factors:
- As Mohammed, Muhammad, Mohamad and pretty much every way of writing this name in Latin script are exactly the same name in Arabic, many baby name tracking sites amalgamate all the spelling variations into one, something they don't do for anglo-saxon or celtic names where spelling divergence actually signify a difference in name by convention (e.g. Steven and Stephen, John and Jon etc).
- The naming conventions with Muslim families mean that a significant number of men in Muslim families have the name on their birth certificate and official documents even when they don't go by it. In some Muslim cultures, every first born boy will be called Mohammed.
- There is a far greater diversity of given names amongst non-muslim communities than traditionally. Traditionally, white-British families would have stuck strictly to the limited selection of Christian biblical names and chosen the Anglo-saxon or celtic spelling depending on their family background. These days you've got all sorts of names made up and 100 different ways of spelling them on birth certificates (I want to call my daughter Catherine/Kathryn but want to mix it up so I'll call her Katherin.

At the end of the day its one of those facts that could be ignored but won't be, I see it as a live and let live, someone can call their kid what they want, does not impact my life.

It's just that when you get the figures of who is banged up for being a nonce. Grooming young girls etc. it's vastly disproportionately of Pakistani men compared to their population in this country. It's just counting. Muslims in jail for being pedophiles is huge compared to their population. Just because one wrong 'un said it doesn't make it untrue.
Denmark is the only country in Europe that has published figures of immigrants committing crimes showing they are committing more sex crimes per capita... actually scrap that. Italy recently published that 52% of sex crimes in Italy were by 11% of the population. Immigrants. Muslims are not compatible with western society. It's a different way of life.
You can be ostracised for saying this. But it's just facts at this point.
I'd go as far as to say that all religion is incompatible with modern society, but some religions are obviously less compatible with civilisation than others.

It's a name ffs, if you all stopped calling your kids precious sunbeam of eternal hope or naming after marvel and Disney characters maybe this would happen.
Although why it's an issue is beyond me.

I mean the Catholic Church operated the largest systematic grooming on a global scale so I would say that its religious fundamentalists and those that use it to abuse that are the issue, but its clearly not all of any religion or race. Probably more of a indication that any religion is not for modern life

True. But having just looked at the ONS data set, the various spellings of Mohammed and other Arabic boys names are swamped into insignificance by the volume of non-muslim names. Names like "Bobby" are on there which wouldn't have even been regarded as a real name 20 years ago which illustrates the point I'm making regarding strict adherence to traditional naming conventions within a particular community skewing figures. My point about many muslim men having mohammad (or variations of it) on official birth certificates even when they don't go on to use it is also illustrated by the fact that Mohammed was the no 1 official baby name in 2021 but the 2021 census data contradicted that and found that Noah was the most common new born baby name presented on census documents....
I'm well aware of the problems created by high immigration levels and particularly issues around Muslim community integration. I'm not alarmed by these figures though. Don't lose sleep over it. Muslim boys baby names are still a significant but still pretty small minority of overall baby names.

It's the ongoing cost combined with the blame for failure when the system can't possibly keep up with the numbers it needs to.
