Players Out: Rumours and Discussion

no more outgoings? and i thought everyone was getting a windfall from the new tv deals which would spur record transfer activity.

I think there will be at least a couple more.

Not the most reliable source perhaps, but the SkySports totaliser is currently at £401m. Last summer it ended up at £481m. With a week left and with both Man United and Arsenal being very quiet so far I think it's quite likely that last season's total will get beaten comfortably.

I quite like Balzaretti.

Real attacking full back, the kind AVB likes. Very very hard working as you'd expect from an Italian. The rumours the past week were that we would be getting him in on loan which I think would be a pretty good deal. I do think Ekotto is better than him though as a full back.

BAE and JD and Gomes are the only ones I thought were likely..and none of them seem likely ATM.

Really can't see Gomes being here on September 3rd. And BAE will only be here if he can't pass a medical somewhere that wants him (I suspect). I also see one of JD or Ade leaving.

But ultimately... who knows?

We need a goalie IMO. Butland was my ideal.

But I have a good feeling Lloris will be our guy for a few years.

I agree (at least I certainly hope he will). Lloris is a genuinely world-class goalkeeper and there aren't that many of them about.

I think he needs long-term back up though. Friedel might be all right for this season, but his age suggests he surely doesn't have much longer at the top level of the game. An injury to Lloris could scupper our entire season unless we have a credible replacement. Gomes won't accept being third in line (I don't think... he's already publicly stated he wants game time this season and still believes he can be one of the three keepers for Brazil at next year's World Cup on home soil... this suggests he wants to be first choice at whatever club he's at, and that won't happen at Spurs - second choice at best and even that's not likely).

Perhaps we can get through this season with Lloris, Friedel and Archer on the books (and keep our fingers crossed Lloris remains fit), but we'll need a competent, and long-term, understudy for the French #1 sooner rather than later.

Gomes is meant to be a good character so i can see him being kept around for the Brazilian lads.

not sure what's happening with regards to a new striker being brought in but it's gone pretty quiet on that front - i expect both Ade and Defoe to remain also at this point

Good character or not, the guy's a professional footballer and this is a World Cup Year. Probably the last chance he'll have to get into the Brazil squad for a major tournament, and definitely the only chance he'll have at being part of the Brazil squad at a World Cup on home soil. And you think he'd be happy to sit on the bench at Spurs in the hope that it might make it easier for some other players to settle at the club?

Maybe you're right. I'm flabbergasted if it's true though.

Fine if Gomes has a positive influence; but we should change his title to Club and Player Ambassador, and free up that place on the bench for some other.

If Gomes is going back to Brazil he doesn't need to leave before the end of the window, as Brazil doesn't have transfer windows.

Erm, they do and it closed 20 July as they are mid-season. End-of-season window opens 1 January and closes 31 March.

I have the feeling that the below are all available:

BAE
Siggy
Ade
Lennon

Siggy will definitely be gone by Sep 2, there's just no room for him in the squad.

I think AVB wants rid of BAE and Ade, but both could did their heels in and it might be difficult to get rid of them.

I honestly think we'd listen to offers for Lennon, I'd be surprised if he left in this window though

Depends entirely where Eriksen is going to be used.

If Eriksen is left of a front 3, then Siggy is one of our six CMs battling for three positions (probably Paulinho's back-up for the most advanced of the roles).

Though if Eriksen is seen as a CM and we bring in a specialist LF, then Siggy is definitely gone.
