Paul Mitchell - Head of Recruitment and Analysis

Reading those again and I contradict myself. My opinion is that the club want to sort the scouting system long term, this has been ongoing since Baldini's arrival, but, due to the performance of players signed in the last 2 years they decided they need to focus some more resources in that area to move things along and Mitchell was the best available option.

@SimonPeach: Pochettino has made some interesting comments about Paul Mitchell's appointment at #THFC, suggesting it was nothing to do with him.

Press Association Sport understands Tottenham paid Southampton compensation for the former Wigan and MK Dons player, who links up again with the coaching staff he worked with at St Mary's.

Pochettino, though, suggests it was others at the club and not him that took the decision to hire Mitchell.

"I never spoke about the new appointment," the Spurs boss said.

"I know Paul from Southampton but only I say all the best and good luck in his job."

Asked if he had any role in the appointment, Pochettino said: "No. The club find him and proposed the job."

Mitchell's arrival at Tottenham will further complicate an already politically charged structure, with director of football Franco Baldini and chairman Daniel Levy both prominent in transfer negotiations.

Quite a few people have been saying for a while that this is a Baldini appointment

Poch also stated this week that as Head Coach his role is entirely about coaching the first team. All these HR processes are probably not of that much interest to him and he's happy for those departments to get on with them without him having to be too distracted by them.

I'm not sure that it is a case of not being interested, it is just not within his remit. He did say in the same press conference that he was the manager at Southampton and that his role is different at Spurs.

He's talked in the past about how he doesn't like transfers. He said they were disruptive and he doesn't like having more than 3 new players a year.

That's not the same as saying that he's not interested in recruitment though.

a lot has been made of Southampton and their improvement despite selling 'star' players last summer - well Mitchell who now works for us supposedly played a not insignificant part in the replacement of those players so you'd like to think that the club are in a better position than they were after AVBs first season when we had the Bale windfall (we also probably need less work on the first XI, with more obvious holes to fill)

Hadn't Mitchell been at Southampton a while though? He will need time to identify targets based on the style of play we are looking to implement surely, it's not a case of this players been on my target list for x years. We need to get players that fit the style of play we want to achieve.

He only did 2 years at Southampton - he was at MK Dons till 2012.

It's been discussed before, but Southampton will have owed the IP on his computer systems, so part of why it will take a while for him to get up-to-speed is because he'll have to re-write his algorithms

This made my day:)))

There'a joke in there somewhere.

Mitchel is re-writing diddly squat. Whatever analysis software or player database he developed at Southampton he has brought with him.

This is big business, not some small-time admin job. Corporate theft could lead to a gaol term.

I work in software and I tell you code theft is almost impossible to find and prove unless you are a bit thick.

Edit: Patent infringement is the real battleground.
