OT: What next for Harry?

The quote did happen - you refusal to accept it is rather strange, seeing that you appear to have taken personal offence on the suggestion. He is who he is. I'm sure there are other posters on here who rememeber that interview with a player.

Even the quote I found so far suggests a far more hands on approach.

Here's a few more while I keep searching - in fact the interview was posted on this very forum where I actually saw it

Jermain Defoe - "What I like about him is that every game has a different approach."

Gareth Bale - "He's still learning as well as a manager but he does all the coaching and everything himself, which is great."

Brad Friedel - "He is very organised and training has been very sharp"

No offence taken whatsoever. I'm not the one claiming abuse remember ;)

This is just more quotes saying AVB has a different approach.Again, nothing to do with what you claimed.

You said some players (so not just one player) said Harry stopped turning up for training most weeks during the time of our poor form and when the England job became vacant. Still noting even close to backing this up.

I do remember some ITK claiming this. :-":special:

You are the one who took great offence in the 'allegations' made towards Arry The Innocent - have a look at your initial 2 responses

Dave - 3 more posters have come out and confirmed the existence of that interview.

I never said anything abour the England job or our poor form - simply on his management approach 'in general'

'He told Saturday’s Daily Mail: “I was enjoying my life at Tottenham and I did wonder how I would cope, if it happened, with what is part-time football. I do enjoy seeing footballers every day, being on the training ground.

“I was driving when I heard on the radio that Roy had got the job. It happened out of the blue. But I didn’t lose any sleep over it that night.

“I was almost quite relieved in a way — that I hadn’t been given a decision to make. The decision had been taken away from me.”'

I must've missed this one the first time round. Which is a shame as it made me laugh.

If he enjoyed being on the training ground, then why did he stop doing it for a while with us?

Unbelievable, no you didn't mention poor form or the England job but that's what you were directly referring to with your claim. Read the post you replied to when you made it!

Jordinho has finally hit the tickle my balls with a feather. I remember reading it on here too, but it was just ITK's claiming it. Not some of our players.

It wasn't ITK - it was a factual interview from a Spurs player

I never mentioned anything about England at all. My reference was a summary of his Spurs career in general - not a direct reponse to that specific post

No, it was definitely one of our players. The ITK's only started calling it after it came out in an interview. As ITK's usually do.

Finding one interview from like five months ago is an almost impossible task, so if you don't believe it, that's fine, but don't start dissing those of us who do remember it.

Dave, are you Jamie in disguise? :)

Not at all. I liked Harry, not a massive fan but liked him, ultimately though he talked himself out of a job and I wasn't too bothered about him getting sacked. I've tried to find the quotes you refer to as well. Found plenty of stories around that time about training ground unrest, players unhappy with tactics, stories of bust ups with Ade, Kaboul, Lennon and Walker. Nothing about Redknapp not turning up to training (court case aside) though. I'd be surprised if you found a quote from one player, amazed if more than one said it like you claim. Would be stupid of a player to blab to the press that the gaffa isn't turning up for work but if you believe you saw it then fine,

Or it could just be the talent at his disposal. Harry has said before (prior to Spurs) that he didn't believe in doing anything special to improve individual players.

but who cares anyway? like why does it even matter?
ok of these 2 options what would you prefer..

A) The players trained once a week and all the other days they spent gorging on Deep pan pepperoni pizzas and watching tv. The weekend match ends in us winning.

B) The players trained every day of the week. They practiced everything from defending/attacking set pieces to playing off side traps in depth and practiced for 5 hours a day. The weekend match ends in us losing.

I guess it's about sustainability and probability, method A is more likely to achieve consistent success than method B, even if it didn't in the 1 off game,... but I know what your saying, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Think Harry's getting a bad rap here, I was happy enough to see him go in the end (the last third of the season was unacceptable no matter which way you sugar coat it - then when you throw in the nonsense that Harry spoke in that period as well...), but he knew a player when he saw one and he knew how to get the best out of them.

Phil Neville likes this :)

there's still a place in quality teams for the Phil Neville's of this world, some were saying the same about Scott Parker before he signed for us (I think I may have even been one of them). Utd have had plenty of Phil Neville standard players in their squad over the years and it didn't harm them, you need the odd water carrier.
