We agree on one thing then (your last paragraph). His last two or three appearances are ones worthy of being dropped. Players given a free role need to be assisting or scoring every game, not causing attacks to break down.

You have introduced this into the discussion yet I think you are overplaying it. Dele has the license to be free. He does not have the "mercurial free role"...if he did, then he would not be the one dropping in to hold deeper shape and allowing LoCelso and Lamela to push forward, he also would not drop into smart defensive shape as often as he does. I find your assertion of him genuinely fascinating. I understand that you consider yourself more tactically astute than many on this forum, which only compounds that fascination.

A good example of stats being deceiving. Alli is a passenger for 90% of games, whereas Son is one of our main outlets and biggest threats.

I think Alli has been very consistent - consistently poor. He doesn't go through highs and lows, but is and has been underwhelming and ineffective for a very long period of time.
We will have to agree to disagree. He has played multiple roles this season, that really doesn't help form. But I strongly believe in a well functioning team not the current dysfunctional mess we find ourselves with, he will be a terrific player banging in lots of goals. He's shown what he is capable of.

He should've been rested by now. That is as much "agreement" as you'll get from me.

The TV comment is cheap; I expect better from you. Maybe I should downgrade my expectations.

We have played with a four a fair few times. Of course Verts doesn't venture forth. I am neither gullible or a TV slave. Again, your assertion of both os patronizing and insulting. I think it would serve you well to try ever so hard to understand the criticisms being put forward.
When playing with four at the back, Aurier costs us a covering DM every match. Usually Sissoko. Which leaves one. Usually Winks or Dier under Mourinho. Which means teams can press two areas to force mistakes. Often, in the scramble to cover Aurier, it leaves our CBs vulnerable (Toby is slow) and as we have ascertained, Verts is also not playing the fast game (!!!). When Moura decides to switch off as well (he often does unless instructed) and if Dele is playing up top off Kane, we end up with Sissoko haring over to cover Aurier's slot, Davos moving across to try and help, we're light in the DM position due to Sissoko and Toby gets left solo to deal. Look with your own eyes how many times that has happened per game. Dier gets coated here -and he is not the player he was- but leave him isolated and he is a sitting duck. Toby? His legs went 16 months ago! Sissoko is not a RB and should not be. In fact, truthfully, the main cover for Aurier should come from Moura (when on that side obviously) or whoever IS on that side, but sadly that also remains a problem. The ONLY place I can find even a shred of agreement with you on Aurier is that he is who he is (an un-coachable frustratingly talented player) who is picked tom play by the manager. So, as I do with every player, when they start in our shirt, they get my full support whatever I think about them.

Christ, quite touchy aren't you for someone not shy of slinging it around...

The Sissoko covering right back thing is a white elephant - its all he's capable of. Jose is trying to find a role for him that allows him to have a positive impact on the game by creating a covering role and attacking through Aurier down the right. Moussa has good qualities, but is fundamentally a terrible footballer. I don't think we should be laying Sissoko's footballing ineptitude at Serge's door. All of our problems, including our defensive vulnerabilities, stem from the fact we don't have a midfield.

Fair enough. I hope that ultimately you're proved correct (of course). I don't see him recapturing form from three years ago. He wouldn't be the first player to flatter to deceive and fizzle out...

I'll step up and defend what I think are cheap comments. I try not to throw them around. Straight debate? Fine.

I'll leave you with your Serge love-in chaps. I've said my piece and I stand by it.

I will say at least we can rely on this forum to always reach the ultimate conclusion...that it is all actually Sissoko's fault. Laughable again.

The final bold-faced line? Come on. Really? LoCelso, NDombele, Lamela, Winks, Alli, Sissoko, even Dier, and you're saying they're the problem versus not having even one decent, fit, proper left-back and a right-back who thinks he's a winger? I suppose it is a game of opinions...

We're standing still and somehow expect to win. That's pathetic.

The movement of our forward line is a disgrace they all stand flat footed waiting for the ball .

I know not to compare but watch City or the dippers front players constantly making little runs time and again.

I have always thought give a manager a chance but for me I’m not having Jose the proven winner gonads. Like some of our players his best is behind him.

January window ahead what player of high calibre thinks hmm I’ll go to Spurs. Unless we pay huge wages.

Sad times

I will say I think too often, especially in the first-half, movement was made early but the passes were not forthcoming. Eriksen and Winks in particular seemed to create a Bermuda Triangle, add Sess's lack of confidence to take a man on and it all ground to a halt far too easily.

Haven't read this thread so apologies if this point has already been made:

Worst possible result. A loss would have been significantly better.

You've missed nothing. General bickering and moaning on all our parts, and the inevitable conclusion that it is all Sissoko's fault even when he isn't there. The last bit will have you nodding in agreement with that late-afternoon snifter no doubt. By the way, we were poor yet again.

Yes I can’t disagree. Even when Lo Celso came on who was looking to play little through balls only willing runners looked like Aurier and Lamela.

We look early and if the move dies we spread sideways and as soon as that happens flat footed forwards. Then we rely on a cross but that lot are not attacking a ball in the air Moura aside. If no cross and go backwards then again it’s just static.
That stuff is all down to what happens on the training ground sadly.

I thought he was stodgy and ended up playing three positions in one game. Had Kane been fit we might’ve rested him; he needs one. I did not think he was nearly as terrible as half here, I thought he was put in positions throughout the match which don’t suit him. When he plays off Kane there is natural rhythm. Even with Sonny he has that but Sonny was very rusty today. Add the fact that playing off Moura is tough for anyone and I think he is compromised. He ended up dropping deep to allow LoCelso and Lamela the space today; again not his position. He ks an easy target IMO.
Lo Celso made the passes and movements that Dele was incapable of doing today. That is purely on Dele himself.

Lo Celso certainly appeared to have more energy I am not sure he passed better though. Thought Lamela was more progressive than both of them but even then we didn't really create that much. There is something about Lo Celso that I really like but he hasn't got used to the physicality of the League yet

He 100% passed better. Within 5 minutes of coming on he played two through balls that put us into the penalty box and half chances and the 3rd through ball led directly to the goal.

You might be confusing Lo Celso and Lamela...

Ironically, with Winks and Sess off the pitch and Dele sitting deeper there was more space in those areas...

Were they more open or did we have a player with a more expansive passing range and vision ?

I do see a merit to the arguement re Winks who was I thought largely ineffectual (again). But I refuse to make excuses for a player. I saw Dele with my own eyes misplace numerous passes today, that's on him.
