One thing is certain, the refereeing (including assistants) has been absolutely appalling.
Bloody bunch of diving bastards!
I remember how, back in the early '90s, English teams just failed miserably in European competition, and today's performance from Fiorentina and the match officials puts me in mind of that. The ref bought absolutely everything. Let's see how they do it with WHL in full voice.
I'd have taken 1-1 before the match. COYS!
Really mediocre, laboured performance there. Hopefully it wasn't a sign of fatigue.
However, the referee really didn't help. He blew his whistle at the sign of any contact and we really couldn't get going.
Bigger picture - 1-1 is a good result. On to Palace.
Spot on about Mason.I certainly feel there will be a bit of fatigue as the season goes on, but it will come down to mentality. Others will be just as tired, and I feel this is where our attention to detail could give us the edge (a little extra fitness, the GD)...big positive tonight is Mason getting a full game under his belt. Will be a vital player in the run-in IMO, and although he was (for me) too slow closing down on the goal, I put it down to rustiness and would much much rather he got 90 here, 45 on Sunday and 90 in the return leg to bring him right back to speed...

Yeah I mean the fact that I have come away from this disappointed is a sign of just how far we've come.Absolutely dominated them in the first half.
Second half they got back into it after their deflected goal and they grew in confidence and started believing... Not surprising. But we stood our ground and got back in the game and it was pretty much an even second half overall. Away from home, EL game, quite a few changes to the team and up against a team that's 3rd in Italy I don't think that's a sign of fatigue at all. Also a game that the players, like us fans, wouldn't have been 100% fired up for.
Son seems to be struggling a bit to find his form, Mason a bit rusty as can be expected.
