OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund - 2nd leg

They really are leaving everyone with no excuses are they not?

If they can win it then we can...Its all pie in the sky and the other lot and City are still in with a shout...I would say I feel we will never get a better chance....head in the guillotine....yes I think we can win it, I think we are good enough, I hope Mopo and the boys can show us this.

well this is where im coming from - if Leicester win the league then afaic it blows any "we aren't good enough to win the league" comments out of the water - no one would swap their first XI/manager/squad for ours, so why aren't we good enough to finish above them? (and by proxy win the league) - we very much are good are enough to win the league this season - we probably won't, but we're certainly good enough to

agreed...love peace and harmony on GG and everything is ok with the world.

But I still say NO to rolling over and letting Tuchels boys tickle our bellies...as a club we let ourselves down last Thursday, I would love it Billy, if we could make some strides to righting that particular wrong......

with regards to Dortmund on Thursday - id have played our strongest team in the first leg personally as these are the type of games which i yearn for, European knockouts against the best teams around - it's what it's all about for me and i think we are more than strong enough to navigate both the league and the EL - however whats done is done and we have given ourselves an almost impossible task in trying to overturn the 3-0, fielding our strongest team in the second leg to me would make the first leg even more pointless than it was

you dont think beating one of the best sides in europe might not actually give us a boost and aid in our league quest?

not trying to be difficult, of course an injury to a key player in a match with little hope would make it folly...but the alternative is we have to play a decent teams in our next three league games, Anfield and Utd at home will not be a teddy bears picnic.....

what I am asking is could you see a situation where we played a strong side, beat an excellent Dortmund team and reap the confidence rewards it would give us going into the final furlong of the league campaign?

oh and I am also miffed with the selection last thursday as I felt we could have beat Villa with the fringe players...but I am not Poch and its far to early to judge what the right call was, he knows our players fitness levels better than me and as you say...its done anyway.

Are you going to sack of the CL next season in case it harms our chance of winning the Prem. Please yourself what your thinking is Stop! Hammer time.

We need to completely ignore the domestic cups next season.
Look at the this season and Alderweireld has played 3600 minutes already this season.
Thats 40 full 90 minutes with 8 league games left to play.

If we have our first playing the 38 league games and 8+ CL we'll be fine in both.

Re Dortmund, what is done is done. Keep Kane, Erikson and Ali on the bench and maximise the chances of getting 3 points against Bournemouth.
I will be there on Thursday night but I will be quite happy for Poch to play some youngsters and keep his powder dry till Sunday....if we beat Bournemouth, we will be on 61 points with 7 to play....that is far more important than trying to flog a dead horse/ resurrect a lost cause.
Remember if they score just 1 goal, we would need to score 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im torn as to what to do in the second leg - would love to field a strong team and win, but by doing so ill be even more tinkled we rotated for the first leg

I'm chocked by the team selections you guys go for! Yes, let's go out there and get spanked, and humiliate both our club and english football, and just throw away UEFA points.... That's the spirit!
That would be the same english football who couldn't give a toss about our players throwing up at Upton Park

Playing a strong side to gain a pyrrhic victory would be folly, if we were to turnover a 3 goal deficit we would only compound our team rotation problems by adding further games. I'm sure the teams competing with us for CL places would love to see us go all the way to the final dropping points in the league and collapsing of fatigue in the final. There is no shame or embarrassment in losing a battle in order to win the war.

If you can argue that, and I'm not for one second saying that this would happen but that this is also a possibility, if we do play our first team and they get turned over by Dortmund don't you think that could severely weaken our league quest?

Trippier--Wimmer--Davies--Bentaleb
-----------Winks----Carroll-------------
--Onomah----Mason------Chadli------

Sub in CCV for Wimmer at half-time.

yes, but it has opened up a decent debate has it not? got some people thinking as I have done about Thursday.....

believe me the first thing I thought last Friday was phuck this! lets play the reserves/kids next thursday....

but has time has gone on I am clearly thinking differently....who knows but as I said there is a worthy argument for going strong, for a start playing our first team against Dortmund might prepare them effectively for Liverpool and Man Utd, no disrespect to Bournemouth which will also be extremely difficult, but an intense encounter could give the first 11 more focus to do the business at Anfield and against LVG's boys...

It's quite simple for me; we don't find ourselves in this position (league) very often... We can always put in a good run in the EL and it's nice to win trophies but, we've got to put all our eggs in one basket here. It's a unique situation for us.

Agree with the omt starter on the team.

For those going on about pride and not rolling over etc, well there is no reason why that team cannot at least draw with Dortmund.

Will certainly help if Dortmund don't treat the game like a CL semi final this time and that the ref awards penalties for fouls incurred on our players in the penalty box.

Don't think we can overcome the result to go through but if we can get a result on the night with 'fringe' players I'll be happy.

In one way it's a perfect game to give other players good competitive game time (thinking about the future).

I think this sort of issue is one where good points can be raised on both sides of the argument.

I totally understand why people dont give a jeff who plays on Thursday, as I say my pride may be clogging coherent thought...

I wonder how you do feel about the 'momentum issue' though, do peeps think it is important? I would hate to see us turned over by Dortmund again...coming into games against Bournemouth, pool, and Utd, I do feel like a rip roaring display against them (even if in vain) could stand us in good stead for the run in.

For me, it is a question of fatigue v momentum. Add in the risk of injury, and it becomes clear (to me at least) that this season, at this time, 0-3 down to one of the best teams in Europe with a virtual infinitessimal chance of going through, we should keep all our powder and players dry for the fullest tilt at the league. Who knows when another chance like this will present itself.

UEFA points? Absolutely grasping at straws for motivation.
We are so behind we'll be 3rd seeds in the CL next year regardless.
Only way to get a good seeding is to win the Premier League.

It's not only about us, it's about England keeping 4 places in the CL.
