***OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Molineux, Sat 25th April, 3pm - ***

fudging hell we needed that. What an emotional roller coaster of a game with the changes to the West Ham score, injuries, is looking good at times looking like we may fall apart at times, the goal, the save at the end.

New injuries will make things difficult, but a win should boost our confidence somewhat at least.

Feel for Simons, looked serious. Good vibes with Maddison back on the bench at least and then that...

At least there's still hope.

Nah, that's not true at all. Waddle's off his nut there. They were fighting, they were working hard, Wolves folded into a block and our usual issues of not quality chances vs some sloppy play (especially from Muani) led to a second-half where without Solanke, and then Simons, I think the team were rocked. In fact, given that we lost two more key players to injury in 97 minutes, i think this result was huge.
Here's the players we 'thought' would be available for DeZerbi on arrival to play in the same team at the same time.
Kudus, Romero, Udogie, Xavi, Sarr, Vicario.
I won't even bother mentioning Maddison, Deki, and Odobert.
Does Davies count?
It's madness.
Fully agreed. The effort was absolutely there. The fight was there. They struggled at times with controlling their frustration about the thing, but that's only natural I think. But our struggles don't look like a lack of caring or trying.

So much quality lacking through injuries it's unreal. Us struggling to create chances shouldn't come as a surprise.

I think the West Ham winner today could be vital, both psychologically and obviously on a points basis.

It was a pretty mediocre performance by us too; not one to inspire much hope of getting three more wins, which is the minimum we’ll likely need.

So, difficult to feel too upbeat, good as it is to get 3 points on the board at last.
Yeah, I'm happy for the win, but all in all the situation is slightly worse now than before the game, as the points gap is still the same, but with one less game to catch them.
Can't do anything about the other teams, just have to keep winning.

I've said we will get relegated since Tudor came in, and this win hasn't changed much.

I' ve only seen highlights but didn't notice as many unforced errors from the team and the dreaded stats appear to show our passing and retention of ball was better. Thought the goal was offside but who cares all decisions are a lottery. I know Palhinha offers little creativity but his drive and attitude help in games like this.
I never like to look beyond our next match but I expect all our remaining fixtures to be like this, tense scrappy games with any wins coming from a solitary goal.

Chance creation was stodgy to say the least. Lots of possession and plenty of effort though. I think the 'didn't look like a side fighting hard against relegation' stuff suggests that he wanted to see us running aimlessly all over the place, throwing ourselves into tackle after tackle and generally 'looking busy'. What I thought was we took the game very seriously, made sure to try and keep things tight, pressed really well (first-half much better than second) and wrestled the game our way. Simons would've scored first-half but for a great defensive block. I'd say Waddle's being lazy there. We are certainly not used to this fight, but I cannot question the effort or desire to get a result.
I think he's probably watching Leeds and Forest and seeing a difference?

Wham will likely drop points against the Goons. We just need to keep winning. Yes tall ask I know ..

I think each game is now it's own mini-battle. I expect no consistency at all in actual performances other than gritting out what we need to do. I have my doubts personally, simply because West Ham seem to have a fit squad all the time and last minute breaks, but we keep going and DeZerbi is occupying the space between eyebrows and hairline well right now all told. A penny for his thoughts on the injuries though...

If we can get 2 or 3 more wins then I think we'll be OK, West Hams luck will run out (same as it does for everyone) but just have to hope it's soon like next weekend.

Main thing is we kept a clean sheet and got 3 points, we've all seen what a bit of confidence can do for a team - even the worst team can look like they're playing total football once confidence comes back.

The morning after.....it's certainly gonna be nip and tuck.

We definitely played well against Brighton (a genuinely good side).

Yesterday we started well, looked energized and confident for the first 30mins. Kinsky a spectator. Then Solanke got injured.

Wolves looked a gift of a game. I thought they were terrible and offered nothing. We then laboured and looked devoid of ideas. Praying a set piece would save us.
Xavi got injured, and it felt like it put us in a spin. But fair play, we eeked it out. (I so thought Paulinha was offside, instantly resigned myself to it, I was in 'everything is going wrong' mode at this stage)

But I'll be honest, the hope i had after Brighton is diminished.
What was everyone's number 1 thought after Brighton? 'Xavi has got to play every week'....good luck with that one.
Solanke.... probably gone for the season.
The hammer blows this team have to suffer is neverending. Even De Zerbi is getting it and he's only been here 5 minutes.

Our performances compared to Leeds and Forest just ain't comparable.
Maybe the Hammers are not as 'on it' as those two, but even a late goal from Everton they responded to. And they have just the one injured player...a 40+ year old keeper wtf, it's a joke.

Sidenotes: Tel did well yesterday, Kinsky fantastic save fella.

Yeah, it’s why my main feeling yesterday was relief that we’re still in it, but I have little hope tbh.

The fatal mistake, as I posted a couple of weeks ago, will be hiring Tudor. If we’d got RDZ in February we’d probably be sitting around where Leeds are.

It all feels too late to me now unfortunately.

This win changes a lot. The team hasn't won in four months - it is massive for belief and you could see the relief from the players, it's a big psychological step.

Whether we go down or not remains to be seen, but our fixtures are pretty even on the difficulty scale so it's certainly all to play for. I'm not one for making game by game predictions, but if we aren't above West Ham going into final game of the season I can't see us not going down....

Maybe the win will also give De Zerbi the confidence to look into the youth team for a solution. Now that we don't have the pressure of the winless run, it might be easier to make room for new players who would make us more unpredictable.

We knew before the game creativity has been a huge problem all season. Wolves decided to park the bus, so we were never going to look good in that scenario. In fact, we haven't looked good in that scenario for years. From that point of view, the Brighton game was a better look, but that was to be expected. I was afraid it would end 0-0, but the lads kept on fighting until the end and that's already a huge improvement.

The morning after the game, I'll say this: I'd rather go down and keep De Zerbi as a manager than stay up and see the same board of directors appoint another 'outstanding candidate'.

Go up or go down, long as RDZ is manager I'm ok with it. For all the negative being spun on here about him (not just talking about the Greenwood situation) I really like the cut of his jib. I believe he will sort us out whether that be from the Championship or PL next season.....

If we go down, I really do think he could build some great foundations around his style in the Championship, extra games, a chance to use more youth players and see who can make the step up.

A lot depends on recruitment too of course, but I think he could have us in a good place for a return.

Posted in the RDZ thread that he apparently said “If I stay here” in an interview after the game yesterday, which was an interesting comment.

Don't think the goal was offside, from most replays it looked off, but there was one view where it looked on.

It was 0-0 at the time of posting. I prefer De Zerbi to Frank, but the claim posters (like yourself?) were making that change the manager and we'd see a hole lot more from the players, just hasn't happened has it?
Between Frank stopping them from playing football and the run we are on, the players' confidence is at rock bottom. It's a bit much to expect De Zerbi to totally transform the team in a couple of weeks. Saying that, the game against Brighton was the best we've played all season.
The problem was not sacking Frank sooner, and when they did, then giving it to someone not qualified for the job. If we had got someone of the calibre of De Zerbi earlier, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Thought we did a lot of good stuff, especially first half. Plenty of decent passing and movement, final pass was lacking though and I was disappointed when we passed back a few times when we had options to keep going forward.
A bit more fine tuning and maybe a bit more shooting practice and we'll get the results to stay up.
Scrappy win but so important at this stage.
Another week of training and hopefully Maddison can actually get some minutes v Villa.
Ps. Well done @thfcsteff
