OMT ***Tottenham Hotspur v Real Madrid***

I think we'll start Kane. I also think Son will play alongside him, his pace getting in behind Real as they push up on to us. It'll be 532 again imo, playing on the counter. We'll get chances, so we just have to take them and give them no gifts, then I think we can win. 2-0 or 3-1. I'd play Winks i the middle again with Eriksen and Dele either side. Real play quite a soft midfield, so we don't need any bruisers, but players who can play those quick accurate passes as we break with the ball, like against Liverpool.

Spot on.

I'd be happy with a draw. I'd obviously be happier with a win. Unless Real and UEFA agree that we can just mark it down as a draw, which seems somewhat unlikely, I don't see how being happy with a draw means we shouldn't even bother playing.
I think a draw is the most likely result. Both teams benefit from it and neither would want to risk losing and it going down to the last game (moreso for Real, who play Dortmund). A point each guarantees both sides go through by beating APOEL.

Are you suggesting we bet on the draw? Are you suggesting it's guaranteed?

We will totally spank them, outplay them, bamboozle them with our gritty never say die attitude ! 1-0

Or we could just fall to a last minute silky smooth move with passes from zizou to modders, to bale to CR7s bum, never know ...
From that article...

"Gareth Bale has not made the trip and will miss out on the chance to reunite with his former Spurs colleagues, whilst goalkeeper Keylor Navas, centre-back Raphael Varane and right-back Dani Carvajal are unavailable."

Shame about Bale if true, i'd have liked to see him back and think all-in-all he'd have had a great reception. The other three, if they're indeed out, can only be good news for us.
is that coz he's gonna rejoin in jan or summer 2018 ? :p

Agreed with above on Kane. This game is a bit of a free one considering our position in the group, so I'd rather he start on the bench, maybe come on for the last 30 if the game's in the balance. Still put out a strong team and go for a famous win, but we can't risk Harry having a setback. Excited to see Rose and Aurier play together.

I wouldn't even have him on the bench if it's a hammy, it takes a few weeks of rest to properly heal, even with top of the line medical facilities etc

After losing 2 consecutive matches without Kane, we badly need a good performance and result to lift our morale. We have done really well so far in the CL. Everyone was expecting us to lose at Real but we surprised all by almost beating them. We need a similiar performance against them at Wembley now. Real have not been at their best this season, even losing to a lowly team in the Spanish league last week. We need to take advantage of their problems to overcome them. A draw will be a good result for us but we need to make history by beating them for the first time in our history.

We badly missed Kane against ManU last week. We need him back for this match, even if he is not fully fit. I think he lifts the other players when he is in the team. I think we need a goal from Kane if we are to get a good result from this match. Apart from Kane, our other goal scorers Eriksen, Alli and Son have not been in good form this season. It will help us greatly if we can get a goal from those 3 in this match as well.

Our midfield did really well in the away match at Real. We will need another good performance from our midfield. Wish Wanyama is fit for this match. Since Dembele is back, want him to play with Dier in midfield. Winks can come on later when needed. Sissoko didn't have a good game against ManU. But I think he can play a part in this match. Eriksen needs to step up his game against Real. Wish he can score from a freekick for once !

Our defence need to be very tight in this match and avoid any silly errors. We will need Lloris, Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Sanchez to be at their best to stop the Real attacks. We need to avoid giving away any freekicks near our goal. Aurier gave away the soft penalty against at Real. I think Tripper should start ahead of Aurier in this match. Trippier's creativity in attack will be helpful for us.

It is going to be another tense match for us. We will need an early goal to help us settle down. Let's hope we will turn up with the right team and mentality to beat Real and progress to the next stage of the CL.

Any team news yet ?

It will be nice to have Alli back for this match after being suspended for the last 3 CL matches. Hope Alli will be fired up to prove a thing or two against Real. He needs to control his temper as the Real players will try to wind him up. I think Kane and our defence will be key to us getting a good result from this match. Let's hope we will do enough to make history by beating Real Madrid for the first time in our history.

To go from "most likely result" to "guaranteed" is a bit of a stretch, don't you think? I just pointed out that a draw would benefit both teams and it's possible we will not see unnecessary risks from either team. If it's tied going into the latter stages of the game, both teams may be happy to just play it out.

No matter the result of tonight's game, let us take a moment to savor. Tottenham HotSpur V Real Madrid at Wembley. It doesn't get more glamorous than that.
I first went to WHL as a 8 year old with my grandfather, I am now 54. I've seen some great times, and I've seen some real pony. From the high of Tony Parks penalty save to the low of The Alan Sugar years and much much more.

About 15 years ago a Gooner that I vaguely knew got right in my face and boldly stated that " Spurs will never, ever play in the Champions league", and at that time I had a horrible feeling that he might be correct.. Now we have a team to be proud of, a fantastic new Stadium on he way and a wonderful young manager. I am so proud of our club. So no matter tonight's result, and I believe we will win. Be proud fellow Lilywhites. We have come so far. COYS!!!!!!

For those that think this is a "free hit" given our results in CL thus far, here's something to consider... (pauses to tell himself that people have very probably thought of this already!!)

It's likely that United, City and Liverpool will top their groups. Chelsea is still plausible though less so after last nights hammering )
If we therefore finish 2nd there are only 3 teams we can face in the knockouts - PSG, Barcelona or Besiktas (probably). If Chelsea do finish second you throw in Roma into that mix.

So whilst this might be getting a bit ahead of ourselves, I don't think we should be writing this off as if a defeat doesn't matter and we should rest Kane etc!

Let's also imagine how that nervy table will look if both Madrid and Dortmund win tonight (more than feasible).
