*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea Rent Boys F.A Cup SF ***

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino: "I feel proud. We were fantastic in the way we played and in our philosophy. They had five shots and scored four goals and we score only two. The penalty for me was a soft penalty or was not a penalty.

"Only now we can look forward. We are four points behind them and we will try to win our next game. I am not worried. The team is strong; we are focused. We were competing today with one of the best teams in Europe. Did we deserve more? Sure, but that is football.

"Now we will try to be calm, watch the game again and try to improve. We are in a process of trying to improve. If we cannot win the FA Cup this season we will try again next season."

Let's hope we come up against Pompey, Hull, Wigan or Villa next time
Or ...... let's try and beef up our squad this summer with high quality players so we can match our rivals when we need to change our first 11

The frustration is the Kane goal, and the Eriksen-Alli goal should have seen us win that. Both sublime goals. The Alli one especially. If we hadn't given away the first 2 to them which were gifts...

The Hazard strike - yes we'd normally have someone covering him, and the subs might have confused roles - but it was pretty good as was the Matic's, the best goal of his career.

We don't lose often. It gets harder and harder to take!
That's the thing, we beat them with 2 great goals assisted by Eriksen back in January and looked set to do the same today but for 3 sloppy goals the likes of which I thought we'd eradicated this season.

Wish we'd got those errors out of the system against Watford or Stoke, where we were so massively superior that giving them 3 goals wouldn't have stopped us from winning.

Unfortunately conceding just before half time gave them a glimmer of hope, as it did when we lost at Stamford Bridge despite dominating most of the play.

In our financial bracket our rivals are / were Everton, Villa and Leeds.

The other 5 of the top 6 earn* and spend almost double or more than we do.

*used advisedly in relation to certain lottery winning businesses.

One thing I fudgeing hate about post-match interviewers in England is how relentlessly banal they are. Did no one ask him about putting Son at left-back? I really want to hear the logic behind that decision.
I thought vertonghen was covering the left, Son was the wing back to drive at Moses with pace something which Davies lacks. It was effective when we had Rose but we do not have any one else capable of doing it. It was a gamble that didn't pay off but not the reason we lost imo.

Mate,we will. We are on the cusp. Maybe not quite the finished article yet,but when we do win a trophy, it won't be a flash in the pan, it will just be the start

With all due respect, I'm not entirely sure. We got to the CC final in 2015, in Poch's first season here - given that we've flopped out of the same competition pretty miserably in the subsequent seasons, it's hard to say that a performance in a cup competition in one season equals any sort of foundation for our cup runs in other seasons. Same with Europe - got to the second knockout round against Dortmund last season, went out to Gent in the first knockout round this time around.

League-wise, we've steadily improved, and it only remains for Poch to beat AVB's tally (possible against Palace) and cement his place as the best league manager in our recent history. But cup-wise, not so sure - not so sure a win will set a precedent either.

You know what would set a precedent, though? Buying and keeping world-class players. Chelsea beat us in the CC final back in 2015, and they will win the FA Cup this season - they have world class players up the *rse to call upon whenever they feel inclined to play them, and fifty other loan rangers traipsing around Europe waiting for the call in the event of an emergency.

To counter Hazard, Costa and Fabregas being sent onto the field, ,we could only manage to throw out one Georges Kevin N'Koudou, a raw punt from Marseille.

Poch needs the tools to win things - we made an encouraging start going into a positive net spend this season, but it needs to be kept up.

What are we doing wrong? We have a better team than Chelsea, outplay them, and yet still lose.

Simple. If we could score the amount of goals they do from free-kicks and corners, we would now be sitting pretty in both FA Cup and League competitions. It is still our Achilles heel.

Thought was a good performance by the boys , just wasn't our day summed up by Harry's free kick at the end .

I have to say how Atkinson is still taking charge of games is beyond me especially games such as these.

In my opinion Alonso should have had 4 yellow cards in the first half and when he eventually got a card it should have been red.

Does anyone else feel he should have been sent off today

An understudy with similar attributes to Rose (of the calibre of Trippier) has to be the utmost priority.

I can't believe we lost that. When it went to 2-2 I was sure we'd go on to win it. We were generally very good, but we do still lack a little bit of depth - not much, maybe two players.

I wonder a bit about Hugo as captain at times, if I'm honest; he looked nervy throughout to me today - but that's a discussion for another time.

The league's not over yet. This team won't break up over the summer - they've got a great manager, too much to look forward to, and Levy's learnt his lessons there.

On to Wednesday and hopefully three points. If nothing else, as Dubai says, let's make this a Spurs' record-breaking season. That will be real progress

And, at the end of the day, they will wake up tomorrow as Chelsea players and supporters.

We are Tottenham.

Exactly.

Harder defending against a break, but we were nervous, and they were clinical. We gifted them the first two, which settled their nerves. Their third we would normally have blocked too.

At 2-2 we were all over them, then the Costa and Hazard subs, and we lost momentum. We tired but we also lost it mentally at that point. I was bricking it myself then. And I think they were too. Had it been a league game at WHL, I think we'd have seen it out for a draw or late win. But something snapped. Tiredness and fear possibly.

I agree it was a gamble that would have made sense if Son kept Moses pinned back or otherwise posed a threat, but it just never worked, and it was apparent from four minutes in. Verts being drawn wider shot our three-man back line all to hell, and Son was useless out on the touchline, utterly lost in defense and attack and unable to bring any of his offensive talents to bear while being easily muscled around by Moses and left stranded otherwise.

And, of course, he conceded the penalty and was hooked after being driven at three or four times and utterly bypassed over the course of the game.

I said during the game, I don't blame Poch for gambling (even if I was mystified with exactly why he chose to gamble in this way). Better that than never experimenting and getting figured out. But he needed to change it. And that was done even more clumsily - putting Trippier on the left when we had Davies on the bench was just utterly indecipherable. Led to two more goals coming directly from that side - Trippier losing his man and forcing Verts to come over and concede a corner we then let Hazard score from, and then Chelsea playing utterly freely on the left before rolling it to Matic for the fourth.

So, when I say they should have asked about Son playing at LB, I mean that they should also have asked about why he was hooked for Trippier going over to the left-hand side, when Davies was right there on the bench waiting.

What gets me is how Kante always gets away with at least 3-4 persistent fouls and slips under the ref's nose. He's a canny kant!

If fancy City to beat them as City won't oussy foot around

City will need to play better than they have recently especially at the back, because as much as don't like Chelsea they are a formidable foe as we found out toda.
I fancy Chelsea just for the FAC, just!
