One of the problems is that we don't have the pace to counter. If we did Dortmund might be a bit more cautious

Son is quite quick. Eriksen over the first couple of meters as well. I think its more the midfield and lack of control. We are so used to controlling games, we are not used to be being on the back foot.

Onomah rides two challenges and then finds his pass shut out, no foul. The Dortmund player rides a challenge but gets tackled and the ref blows for a foul? Am I missing something?

Two things

Onomah doesn't look out of place

The ref is making an odd set of calls... Carroll should have had a ref by normal standards for example

Pretty much full strength. Goalie is number 2.

Wouldn't have been quite as one sided if we had Alli, Kane, Dembele and Lamela out there. We'd still struggle, but at least there would be more support from midfield.

It'd not that we don't have some relatively quick players, but when we had Bale and Lennon, or if you look at Arse, or Dortmund here, they have really quick players. We are set up to press rather than counter these days. (And Njie is injured).

Disappointed the way we concede possession that half. They need the cojones to play the ball more, make passes and open up space.

Only 1 down. An equaliser and we'll be rocking.

When we are this much on the back foot, our striker really needs to play off the shoulder of their defence constantly. Then we have the option to just ping it upfield when we clear the ball.

Oh for a Bale. Son isn't in full confident pomp. We do need a player who can charge into opposition defenses.

We need to believe a little more. Lack conviction and our press seems very fragmented. We are clearly petrified of their pace and quality going forward.

This team is almost entirely different to our full stength team. Is he gambling? Hoping to snatch a 1-1 or a 2-1 loss while resting our team?

Did Chakir send off Nani for his kung-fu challenge against Real several seasons ago? Or I'm mixing him with another ref?

Could have been a lot worse considering.

Let's regroup, perhaps change things up a bit and then see how we get on during the second half.
