*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa FC ***

Son is so conservative with his football now. Don't know if it's the armband or confidence due to losing a yard, but he plays completely differently now.
It looks to me he is protecting his hamstring
He was quite aggressive in the last game and then recurred. It's so frustrating that odobert is out too...like we need a 33 man team to be competitive

People booing after that half? fudge off. I thought the lads did well. We must have won more balls in the final third than any other game before. Excellent in the press. Unlucky with the deflection off Bentancur with the goal - not easy for Vic to save.

Villa have a good team. Rogers and Ramsey looking strong. We tend to struggle with teams that sit back and counter. For the first 35 mins they barely managed to counter.

Maddison on for the second half, please. I think Sarr has been excellent, but must probably be sacrificed here.

So is it the system or is it the wide players?

I think it's the players. Both Perisic and now Werner play within the system much better than Son or Johnson do. Werner hugs the line at all times, goes at his man and tries to deliver. Like I said its not luck the amount of chances he misses. Johnson technically doesn't look good enough to beat his man, and Son fudge knows

I actually think Porro would be a better fit on the right hand side.

Letting them dictate the pace is an issue
We should slow it down even more and see what they do
Instead we try to play too fast and lose the ball
Sonny looks not fit

Think Maddison will come on from the off in 2nd half. To be honest, I was surprised he didn't start, as this is more a game for him. We all knew villa would not go after us and press high. They were always going to defend deep. That's the type of game where you need 2 offensive midfielders.

So is it the system or is it the wide players?
Is the wide players and midfield.

Wingers are a waste of space, rarely take on their man, despite beung some of the fastest in the league.

Midfield devoid of creativity and abilitly to link well with the front three.

Zero footballing intelligence, all huff no puff.

We have serious problems at spurs, and very few want to admit. Not all ange's fault.

But a lot of it is down to levy... his bargin buys and leaving us with bang average players.

So is it the system or is it the wide players?
It's the system with these wide players. I argued earlier in the season that for me the system is incompatible with the type of wide players we have. Slower, more intricate passing schemes require more technical probing players and those that can beat their man from a standing start.

Our wide players suit playing in space and on the counter. You saw it against City when we had spaces they revel in that. But in these tighter closer midfield congested games wide players who are unable to beat their man just don't work and Ange should know this. It's concerning for me that he saw what happened last season and didn't either alter the system or bring in 2 starting wide players that actually suit the heavy possession football he wants to play.

We create 0 for him. 0.

For all the talk about him being the perfect fit for Ange's system, Ange's system clearly isn't a fit for him. I personally think it's down the inadequacy of the wide players but hey I'm a broken record on this.
His hold up play is so so, if Richi (who I don't overly rate) was making the same kind of first touches we saw in that half there would be a melt down.

But then we've conceded the 2nd most set piece goals in the last 2 seasons. As always you'll find one stat that goes for an argument and one that goes against. I don't think anyone could argue we look nervy defending them, just because an unpopular figure like Neville or Smith makes the observation doesn't make it untrue..Take a corner against City on weds, Vic lumbered through the box before running into one of our defenders completely wiping him out. We didn't concede so it didn't affect the stats but it was clumsy as hell and doesn't inspire confidence for players / fans / coaching staff alike.

Very dull half. Both sets of players milking every bit of contact. Villa well organised, even when we nick the ball they get back into shape straight away. Starting to feel for Dom, he can leg it around all day but it'd be nice if someone created a chance for him.

The goal wasn't down to Vicario..there were two deflections and he still saved it
He was getting pushed around before that, needs to be stronger in general. I don't see any other keeper in the league that gets handled the way he does (admittedly he should have more fouls against him. He also could've caught the corner before that but instead punched the ball straight back to Villa.
