@thfcsteff - it wasn’t an elbow on Trippier, it looked it in real time but when they showed it back he barely touched him, basically Robertsons hand literally brushed his face, purely accidental and Trippier went down. It was a soft one and embarrassing from Trippier.
Definitely not without intent! There is absolutely no reason to throw your arm back like that. It's not a natural position for running. So when you do that, you have a pretty good chance of hitting anyone behind you. It was intentional alright, but nowhere near as serious as Trippier made it look.

I suspect if it had been Trippier's stray hand on Chaim Salad it would be been at least a yellow.

Err accidental, who the fudge runs like that. The fact he may have barely touched him is immaterial, it's intent. His hand can only be there for one reason.

Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait as long as the Goons for a 2nd bite of the cherry!

Looking back, I see that Leeds were the sole English club to lose in their first appearance at a European Cup final but hopefully the fact that Chelsea also lost their debut in the only other all-English final (before going on to win it 4 years later) is a good omen for us...

ManU: 1968 won, 1999 won, 2008 won, 2009 lost, 2011 lost
Leeds: 1975 lost
Liverpool: 1977 won, 78 won, 81 won, 84 won, 05 won, 07 lost, 18 lost, 19 won
Forest: 1979 won, 1980 won
Villa: 1982 won
ARSEnal: 2006 lost
Chavski: 2008 lost, 2012 won
Spurs: 2019 lost

Better teams than us have lost finals since 2000 like Atletico (x2), Juventus (x3), Bayern, Chelsea etc so I don't think we should worry too much, just need to rebound and learn from the experience. Liverpool said they felt Madrid were too experienced and street wise for them but not necessarily better as a team and that did for them, they obviously learnt from that and came back well this year. We should aim to do the same.

On the plus side, at least we’re now not involved in the World Club Championship in Qatar in December. That should help pile on the fixture congestion for Liverpool.

In late 2016, FIFA President Gianni Infantino suggested an expansion of the Club World Cup to 32 teams beginning in 2019 and the reschedule to June to be more balanced and more attractive to broadcasters and sponsors.[124] In late 2017, FIFA discussed proposals to expand the competition to 24 teams and have it be played every four years by 2021, replacing the FIFA Confederations Cup.[125]

The new tournament, planned to start in 2021, would be held every four years instead of annually, would feature 24 teams and 31 matches. It would include all UEFA Champions League winners, UEFA Champions League runners-up, Europa League winners and Copa Libertadores winners from the four seasons up to and including the year of the event, with the remainder qualifying from the other four confederations.[126] Along with a new Nations League competition, revenues of $25 billion would be expected during the period from 2021 to 2033.[127]

In March 2019, FIFA decided to expand the Club World Cup starting in 2021.

Saw that elsewhere yesterday, not sure how reliable it is but info on the next world club tournament seens pretty sparse atm

No question Liverpool became more successful this season because they improved their defence. They were probs around the same in terms of their attacking play.

All ifs and buts now but I can’t help but thinking our team from 2016/17 would have given them a better game. That team really was our strongest in decades.

Yup, if we had DESK in the form of that season I’m certain they’d have converted at least a couple of our 16 shots into goals but they’ve all been well below those heights of late.

Hopefully 18/19 proves to be the outlier for them rather than 16/17.

Feeling bitter. annoyed and depressed with this CL final defeat ! It is not easy to accept losing any Cup final, let alone our first ever CL final ! It is going to mentally affect us for years to come ! This is typical Spurs ! When you put too much hope on them to do well, they will always let you down ! After the way we beat Emirates Marketing Project and Ajax to be in the Final, really thought we were going to win the CL ! We could have made history by winning our first CL and become the European Champions. Instead we didn't turn up and played poorly for most of the match. We only played well for the first and last 10-15 minutes of the match and didn't look like scoring. It was annoying to concede another early goal via the penalty which proved costly to us. It was a soft penalty but Sissoko was stupid to raise his arms like that.

Pochettino has to take large part of the blame for playing the wrong team. Kane should not have started this match while Moura should have started. Kane has been in poor form even before his injury and he looked poor and rusty again. It was really harsh to drop Moura who had scored the brilliant hattrick against Ajax. Our attack looked toothless and all our shots were direct the the goalie. Pochettino should have at least bring on Moura at the start the of the second half instead of waiting until the 65th minute. Alli, Eriksen and Son had another poor match. Eriksen really should have done better with the freekick late in the match. We should have started with Lamela or at least bring him on as substitute in the second half. Lamela would have lifted the team. Instead found it annoying Pochettino brought on Dier and Llorente. It has been proven many times that Llorente cannot work with Kane but Pochettino still did the same mistake.

Our midfield was a let down. Sissoko not only conceded the stupid penalty early in the match but he also had a poor match. Winks worked hard but I think we should have started with the experienced Wanyama. I think Wanyama would have helped to win the ball more than Winks. Not sure why Pochettino brought on Dier for Sissoko when we badly needed the goal in the second half. For some reason, Pochettino always bring on a defensive minded player when we are looking for a goal. Dier is always error-prone and it was his mis header which caused us conceding the second goal. This is where we badly missed Dembele ! I think Dembele would have helped us to win this match.

Our defence have been poor this season and it came back to affect us. The first goal was a soft penalty but we really should have done better with the second goal. It was Dier's mis header which caused panic but Vertonghen and then Alderweireld should have done better to clear it. They looked too casual with the defending that time. Rose was probably our best player but he gave away the unnecessary corner from which they scored the second goal. Both the goals came from Trippier's position so he has to take part of the blame for the goals. Lloris had nothing much to do the whole match but wish he had saved the penalty. After all, Lloris had saved his previous 3 penalties for us.

Losing in any Cup final is really hard to accept. It would have been easier to accept if we had lost to Emirates Marketing Project in the quarter final or Ajax in the semi final. It was a glorious chance to win the CL but we have wasted it. Not sure when or if we will be in another CL Final. With this defeat, we have now wasted our last chance to win a trophy this decade (2010-2019) ! This means, for the first time since the 1940s, we have gone an entire decade without a trophy ! We have also lost our last 3 Cup finals and 4 of our last 5 Cup finals ! It is no coincidence that these 4 Cup final defeats came after Levy became the chairman in 2001. Before that, we had won 13 of our 16 Cup Finals, losing only 3. The main reason for our poor Cup final record under Levy is that almost all the managers he appointed, including Pochettino, are young and inexperienced ! The only exception was AVB and Ramos who duly won us the League Cup in 2008. Ramos is a legend for winning us that trophy which looks like will be our only trophy for some years to come !

See you in August

Honestly, I can't remember a single one of those situations. It's like I have completely erased the game from my memory (except the non-penalty).
Don't think I'll ever watch the game again either. Would probably only make it worse, because we probably played better than I thought. Best left forgotten!

Remember a couple I think. The second one was roostered up with a tinkle poor pass but like you I’ve erased most of the game.

I had it recorded knowing I’d watch it on a loop for the summer and beyond or never again. It was deleted the minute I got home.

Absolutely agree. The lazy narrative after the final was that Poch made an error starting Kane. Didn’t agree with that at all. During the match, it was plain to see that Son and Alli were having a stinker. But of course the focus was on Kane. If he had had better movement around him he would have escaped the shackles of VVD. Personally I would have taken off Dele for Moura earlier. I would also have liked to have seen Lamela come on for Son but unfortunately Sissoko’s injury put paid to that.

I said it at the time, that to my mind Mane deliberately knocked the ball to his Sissoko's arm and that this new handball rule will lead to loads of penalties.
That and defenders contorting themselves to ensure their arms are not 'in an unnatural position,' whatever that is.

It's the most ridiculous rule change ever. Given handball is always going to cause controversy, wtf was wrong with hand-to-ball vs ball-to-hand?
