They were all easy saves though, straight at him, story of our season.

The one good opportunity we had in the box fell to Moura and he scuffed it straight to the keeper.

Eriksen worked a great opening outside the box in the first half only to fudge it up and clear the lower tier.

Both of those chances need to be taken in CL finals.

Not taking chances doesn't mean we didn't try. That's what I can't accept, particularly coming from you.

The 3 biggest chances we had happened when we countered with speed - the 3-3 in the first half which ended with the over hit pass

The 4-3 which ended with us passing the wrong way to Winks

Another 4-3 which ended with Allis chip shot.

Some awful decision making and lack of concentration last night.

None of our front 4/front 5 covered themselves with glory last night. They didn't play that well as a unit, and individually weren't great either, their shots lacking power or conviction.
But with a knackered body and distinctly tired eyes all I can say is:

If you only knew what i'm going through,
I just cant smile without you

This post from Reddit sums up some of my feelings pretty well, particularly after watching the footage above:

"fudge every last person who says the players don't care or didn't try.

This video shows the empathy that professionals have for each other. Think rival fans are often too mean-spirited to each other and to the players... I'm certainly guilty of it. Don't think we understand what is truly put into it, but you see the players always backing each other.

Klopp knows exactly how they all feel because he's felt it himself...he's definitely one of the good ones. It was good to see him come over to Son."

Only watched 2 minutes of that and I have tears rolling down my face.

With their typical lack of foresight, they've changed the rule to make it more VARable. Taking out the deliberate requirement turns it into a matter of fact, whether the ball can be seen hitting the arm or not. They probably haven't considered the opportunities it will provide to profit from unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Isn’t taking out the deliberate requirement only supposed to apply when an attacking player gains an advantage from the ball accidentally hitting his arm? Or is that just the PL next season?

I thought it was a penalty due to the silhouette rule that Rose fell foul of against City.
Does anyone know if there anything in the law that excludes deflections from body onto arm? (Far too lazy to look it up).

Which reminds me - well done to the person who at 4am this morning at the departure gate managed to get on the tannoy (or had a loudhailer) and sang a croaky “Can’t smile without you” line that picked everyone up for just a minute or so as we all joined in.

yes that was great, brought a much needed smile back to everyone

I’m not claiming they didn’t care.

What clear cut chances did they create?

Moura missed 1 chance, can’t think of anything else.

Alli had a curled shot he didn't get enough power behind, Eriksen's freekick, Son had a shot from distance, we had a couple of decent headers, Son powering through their defense but getting tackled last second by Van Dijk. We certainly tried, but their defensive unit was solid, didn't give us a lot of space. We would've gotten a whole lot more space if we hadn't conceded as early as we did.

That’s certainly nothing clear cut.

A shot from distance, a free kick and a wrong decision.

Much how I think someone like Zaha would be hit and miss I think he would be a useful addition for these games.

I thought Son was worthy of inclusion in the MOM. Only player to take the attack to them. Nothing came of it, and with no Son listed will have to be Roseor Winks.

Thought Son was awful first half and made some basic errors. Second half he definitely picked up and was one of our better performers.

Except it didn't hit the arm! It hit his chest/shoulder. It's allowed to use the shoulder. If his arm is down his side, and the ball hit the exact same spot, it's never given. And it should not have been a penalty in this instance either. The direction his arm is pointing is of no relevance.
It’s a silly rule that I think will be done away with after next year due to all the penalties that will be given. The other side of this is that defenders often put their arms behind their backs when in the box, and Sissoko had his out - HIS mistake, and Mané was smart enough to kick the ball at his arm.

What a terrible, terrible, terrible start.

Exactly this. If it happened in the other box, I’d have been furious if we didn’t get a pen.

It was stupid from Sissoko to put himself in that position. Looked like he was telling someone to mark in behind. I’m sure Toby and Jan had that under control. Sissoko was naive and stupid and Mane exploited it.

What a fudging start. 30 bloody seconds. Such a kick in the stomach for us.

I didn't expect us to win, but couldn't have possibly expected defeat to loom so ominously after the first 22 seconds. And, yeah, I'm in agreement to give the pen. You can only imagine how desperate Liverpool were coming into the match and were totally switched on before they finished tying their boot laces.

Watched it in a pub packed with Spurs fans and after all the pre-match optimism, the air went out of the room in a heartbeat. We did alright to take the game down to a more controlled level and try to build a response but that meant mostly wasting the rest of the first half playing cautiously.

I hope it sticks in the craw of all involved like last year's result did for Liverpool. Pochettino can roll out all the sharp-ended, burning motivational notions and speak of being streetwise 'til the cows come home. Nothing works as effectively as the sting of bitter defeat.

And now, time to look forward with balance and perspective and no little optimism. All in all, it's been a helluva season and we still have Arsenal's sorry plight to cheer us up.
