*** OMT: Spurs vs Sunderland*** Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday 4th January, 3pm

Damn. Need a whole load more of that. Midfield looks good, attack looks good, defence looks comfortable. Not all out attack, and not all out defence. Some better decisions in the final third and we could have had a few more.

Only one poor performance so far...Muani.

The reality is Frank has got us playing this way but keeping their xG to 0.07 over 45 mins. Frank will have no problem loosening the reins in these types of games but will set up more defensively in others. It is all about keeping clean sheets and so it should be at this stage.

I think its more about the turnovers Sunderland have gifted us in their 3rd, and their general quality level

the game plan is the same as it was against Brentford, just Brentford barely made any mistakes
Think you are being a bit harsh there, we are a lot quicker to close them down compared to Brentford and we are using the ball a lot better than against Brentford. Sunderland are a decent team.

That is as good a performance as I’ve seen in months. Effort has been outstanding, the press has been coordinated, the intent has been good. Defensively very solid. Odobert been the pick of a very good bunch.

Only watch points are that we’ve taken an extra touch too often and I can’t imagine Sunderland will be that poor second half. I haven’t watched much of them but if they’re where they are in the table, they must be better than that.

Everything I’d hoped for so far. This is something to at least get behind.
Their position flatters them. They're nowhere near a top half side and been luck in a number of games.

No way it's that the same game plan. From defence to attack we are pressing quicker and moving the ball quicker. This is definitely a different game plan. You don't need mistakes to move the ball quickly or press

its about the difference in time and space we are being given, Sunderland are doing everything really slowly

No it's a visible tactic we are pressing them high and as a result winning the ball high up the pitch. Think you're being harsh saying they're 'gifted' to us, more that we are pressing well and forcing turnovers....

This was my thought when I heard Sunderland had only scored 4 away goals all season :D....

we are pressing well

we pressed against Brentford too, but they were good enough to play through it with quick movement and passing

Sunderland are holding the ball too long in defensive areas and not moving

Ben Davies on his debut....

We're just not very good technically which in this game is the issue more than anything else.

We need at least a couple players like Perisic that do everything right every time and we could score 4/5.

In general our defenders are better technically than our attackers.
Yup. We aren't a good team technically. I'm baffled what everyone is is seeing. It's always 2 touches and then a pass, the initiative and momentum is lost by that point.

If we want better football we need better players.

Almost felt like a Poch performance with the way we pressed and how comfortable we were winning the ball back.
We did the same v Burnley and I was really excited about how Frank was going to have us set up and then well....... why not just do this every game? How hard can it be to coach a well coordinated aggressive press?

So we now have Muani, Tel, Odobert and Richi on the pitch at the same time.

That surely has to be second string to Solanke, Kudus, Madds, Xavi, Kulu etc

It's quite exciting to see what they can all do playing together though.
Based on what we have seen so far, only Muani is a problem. Odobert had been brilliant and it's showing what he can do off the ball. No way Kudus and Madders is pressing like that.

Tel has been good. Richy has had a good game, and been superb defending set pieces.

Of course Frank will set up more offensively. There's only a couple of teams in the PL that have scored less than Sunderland this season. It makes total sense to set this game setup on the front foot.

Sunderland are quicker to close us down than Brentford were imv

I don't think so, but I was talking more about their turnovers, they have not been able to play through us quickly like Brentford did, hence we have had more touches in their box as we have won it back regularly in advanced positions

Rich has been phenomenal all season at defending in our third. It's such an unselfish trait of his,
