After Spurs, Graham never returned to management. He was a pundit on Sky TV for several years, in particular their PremPlus channel. He also commentated on the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005 FA Cup Finals featuring Arsenal.Still a clam never watched a single game while he was manager. If we hadn't been doing the same thing all season then you might have a point. Also why on earth do we sell one of the players who has been making appearances in the midst of such a run of games?I think there's some mitigation here - we're off the back of the busy Christmas period and in the midst of a run of 6 games in 2 weeks - we can't run our players in to the ground, we've seen what happens there. Maybe if we didn't already have 4 or 5 attacking players absent we would have taken a different approach in the second half
I don't agree with the first bit, but agree with the second.Agree with the first bit.
Don't agree on the second though, we got good money for Johnson, and we know how limited he is, an out of position Tel or Odobert offer as much in that role imo.
Our XG was 1. Half of that was the Davies tap in from a corner. So our 'really encouraging' display saw us with 0.5XG from open play, at home, against a promoted team, with 5 players at AFCON. I agree with your final point that we've had way worse but that doesn't make Sunday's performance a good one, just one that wasn't as bad as many others this season.I couldn't watch yesterday, so relied on the radio.
I just watched the whole game on SpursPlay.
MUCH better, really encouraging.
Davies really good and Odobert superb.
We did really well until 60ish minutes, then Sunderland started to really push forwards and we defended really well.
Sunderland managed 5 seconds of genius play and it arrowed into the top bins, other than that we did well and deserved it.
For a team with about 7 forwards out, we still drove forwards well.
I think people are reacting to the scoreline and our recent form and our 'pragmatic' manager. But the game was decent. We've had way worse.
That's fair, it was nothing special. But hoping to see Tel/Odobert given more time to play together along with Simons coming back in to knit things together, and if we can maintain what looked to be a more positive approach then we can build on that performance at least....Our XG was 1. I also thought that Tel and Odobert did well before they clearly tired. They both definitely have something to work with. The lack of progressive passes/carries through the centre of the pitch has to be addressed though if we want to create more chances and that seems to go against Frank's whole ethos. That's fair, it was nothing special. Cherry picking alert....Our XG was 1. Half of that was the Davies tap in from a corner. against a promoted side who beat Chelsea and recorded draws against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Emirates Marketing Project.
So we both had 7 players out…. They had 2 injuries as well as 5 at Afcon. If you think a 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland is a good result and creating an XG of 1 (with less than half of that from open play) is a good performance then I suspect our opinions will always differ.‘…with 5 players at AFCON…’
Whereas we were only missing Udogie, Sarr, Xavi, Kulu, Maddison and Solanke (and Kudus for most of the game).
