Oliver Skipp

He is still only 22 and suffered a pelvic injury that can linger before a full recovery in some cases. The talent and composure is there and if he can fully return to full fitness he can be a very good player.

When he was on loan at Norwich i knew the coaches there and they all thought he was going to be a very good player. Lets hope so.

Hopefully, the worst-case scenario is that he becomes our Nicky Butt, i.e. a hard-working, solid midfielder, but hopefully he'll be better than that (but unlikely to be our Roy Keane!).

Yeah. Keane was of the best in the world in his role/position. That's probably not particularly likely for Skipp. But he's already a really useful player at 22 (having missed a lot of the last year to injuries), I think he can develop quite a bit further from here.

Really like a couple of those one touch passes. Some good two touch passes through the lines as well.

Time will tell if he can step up his passing game anther level from this, but a lot to like from him already on the ball.

I find it difficult to evaluate just how good he is defensively, but my impression is that he's already at a very high level with his positioning and awareness, reads the game well. Good tackler too.

Whilst different in stature to Benatncur his game is in many ways strikingly similar. Both have the happy knack of putting us on the front foot.

I agree I think.

Not as smooth or elegant as Bentancur. Not the same level of skill to get out of tight situations and dribble past players. But both have that get the ball forward, do a useful thing with the ball ability. Think Skipp is rather good under pressure too like Bentancur.

This is probably a bit lazy, but he reminds me a bit of Winks on the ball (when Winks was/is good). Neat and tidy without being spectacular, but good consistency with pass selection and execution, good close control.

Defensively he reminds me a bit of Scott Parker. Not outstanding physically, but tough and good stamina to get around the pitch. Good awareness and strong tackler.

That may seem like faint praise, but Winks on the ball and Parker defensively can add up to a really good player.

I think with more playing time we'll see some more confident passing again. Do you remember a year or so ago people were raving when he was playing first time cross field balls out to the left wing, so he does have it in him. Probably just keeping things near and tidy at the minute

It was rather central so not sure if the keeper should have saved it but to be fair, the shot had so much power on it - What a strike.

That's on Kepa not Skipp, Kepa had two chances to prevent that goal, fudged up both (initial from Royal that he didn't hold on to and shot)

Congrats Skipp, nice way to get your first, against the Blue Scum, in front the south stand, with a banger
