Yes the back end of last season was desperately disappointing. But to say Harry's legacy to the team was 'toxic' is insane.
We played some of the best football I've seen us play in a long, long time.
He was our most succesful manger EVER in terms of PPG.
Got us into the Champions League
Put Spurs back into the limelight as a 'top 4' club enabling us to attract bigger name player
People have such fudging short memories.
I know, I know, Livermore a homegrown player and all, but fudge me, he's got little to offer. Can't believe we took off Sandro to keep him on - what the hell was AVB thinking? Livermore was utter brick today, at least Sandro did something in the first half. We're really, really going to miss Van Der Vaart and Modric. I sure as fudge hope Dembele doesn't get injured, then we're screwed.
----------------- Friedel ---------------
Walker -- Caulker -- Verts -- BAE
--------- Sandro -- Dembele -------
Lennon --- Dempsey -------- Bale
-------------- Adebayor --------------
Vs Reading. Thats a really good looking team...
My honest opinion is that the idea that we weren't already a stable, tactically effective unit comes purely from reading message boards and not fair assessment of what happened on the pitch last season. I'm not a fan of tactics in general. Or rather I think they are far more straight forward and easy to recognize than fans make out. I think this is actually beyond debate, but no matter what happens in terms of results, many fans will still fight for the idea of a tactical genius. To my mind tactics are simply playing in a way that best exploits are qualities and restricts theirs.
So when I look at our best players qualities, I want us open and playing quickly from deep positions. I wont forget the way we beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project in the run in of 2009/10 by absorbing their pressure and hitting them with Bale's runs. We did the same against Inter. I watched us blow away loads of teams with our width and pace last season. I loved our lightening fast end to end style and it's definitely the best way to play with the players we have. Watching Bale charge past Villa's right side, with Lennon charging down the left to receive and cut back for VDV to slot home, was simply magnificent and sums up what is best about us.
Mate, I didnt decry his achievements, however from the Arse game onwards he left the club in complete disarray. He failed to get us CL, cost the club a fortune, and never got in adequate players for the future (nelsen and saha anyone). There was no long term planning in his squad creation, lack of team rotation meant he had many disaffected players and played players patently injured and he left us with a dispirited team. The quality of the football in the last half of the season was dire from the cronic display at the emirates onwards.
i think it is you who has a short memory.
Or up swing, depending on who you want to look at it. We took 10 points from our last 12!
Harry will be tinkling himself on match of the day tonight
Hudd was supposed to help us keep possession. It would have worked, were it not for a West Brom goal and an over-zealous ref. Sigh. It was a good substitution in theory.
Anyone who can say a single positive thing about AVB is living in cloud cuckoo land. We are brick, rubbish, clueless, spineless, rudderless and inept. It all stems from the manager. Shocking mistakes from AVB today. When you know something isnt going to work out you just "know". He will be sacked within 10 games, I can guarantee it, so we may as well do it sooner rather then later. West Brom and Norwich are poor - a better team will tear us to shreds.
Sorry mate I cannot agree with that at all. Huddlestone is one of the best users of the ball we have at the club. Hindsight is wonderful, but the goal we conceded wasn't to do with Huddlestone (So I was told). Theoretically it made a lot of sense. He was always going to be rusty. Has he even played a reserve game? Just a bad cliché substitution . Take off a striker bring on a midfielder to stiffen things up.
Except the midfielder has not played for months and is slow at the best of times. He was a bad substitution as was last weeks. Defoe was more likely to keep the ball, is much more of a goal threat, it is sometimes a good idea to score again, rather than sit back and letb them come at you.
Take Defoes. contribution for the last 10 minutes he was on the pitch and match against Hudds this week , or Jenas last week. There is the answer. Hudd did nothing good at all.
It really is no suprise or fluke that we lost the lead twice. If AVB cannot see that it is very worrying.
You do not need to understand anything. Yes I will support him, I believe he needs time but that he is not immune from questioning, not least becasue elements of what we saw today relate to what he did in the past. Hence it relates to how much confidence people might have in him. Your last point is not about ill feeling but more about you and your positon. So take it as you want.
Some fudging shockers from AVB today
- 2 DMs at home (again!) vs. relegation fodder
- Dembele on the bench behind Livermore
- Ade on the bench behind Defoe
- Taking Sandro off at half time when Livermore was clearly the poorer mid
This...and it's a very disturbing thought

I agree that we have played some great games the last few seasons, I've been as happy as any other fans of this. But I think we are vulnerable, if Bale will be gone five matches no one can do what he does, then everything falls. What I see in this new system is that it is easier to rotate players and resting players. This hopefully eliminates what happened to the second half of last season. But it does not matter that we do not see things the same way, the most important thing right now is that we give this a little time and do not get too much panic
