Official - Holtby

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in January - pg 25

........................New striker (we can pray?)
Bale.................Dempsey.......................Lennon
..............Holtby..................Dembele

Is class.

Yes yes mate that is class if you're playing Football Manager.

Now in the real world you need someone protecting the back 4. That's why teams like Gooner scum got destroyed defensively tonight by playing a central midfield full of pansy ball players and no defensive steel. You can sometimes get away with it if you have a strong, box to box type CM with bags of energy but even that's risky. If Gooners get diame we're in big big big trouble btw.

Parker has been out for 6 or so months ffs and people are so so quick to write him off.

Er, take it you didn't watch the Gooner match tonight?

The gooners got destroyed because their defenders fudged up on multiple occasions, and failed to clear the ball despite multiple chances to get rid for both goals.

Everyone WANTS him to be ok in replacing Sandro, but the position we are in means we just can not afford performances like that. It's just too tight.

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in January - pg 25

Very impressed by that from Holtby... Made the rest of our players look silly that he could just come on like that after a day at the club and do that.

Expecting him to start the next game.

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in January - pg 25

Dembele does more defensive work than Parker. Well more succesful defensive work anyway. I guess some people are too blind to see and are expecting Parker to be as good as last year

i watched the game thanks and whilst you choose to focus on their calamity defence (which is the norm for them) i got my laughs from watching Liverpool do an absolute job on them by exploiting central spaces because gooners had nobody fudging there. The space liverpool got when attacking was criminal and i haven't seen us get exploited that badly in a while.

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in January - pg 25

I would love to see how a Dembele - Holtby midfield combo would work. Dembele is solid defensively and Holtby has played a deeper role in Germany today and we could see today that he can tackle and track back.

Probably not going to happen.

At Parkers age its not like he'll get any fitter or get into his prime. What we also miss with Sandro is his Size. Sandro is a pure 100% unrefined Beast of a Bloke, Parker is a 5'6" terrier nipping at heels.
Comparing Micky Brown back when he partnered Carrick for us, and I can tell you who I would rather have out of the two. Brown could actually pass the ball.

Oh fair enough. All i saw was Arsenal allowing Liverpool to pass the ball around outside the box in spaces that didn't really hurt them.

They only got destroyed when they fudged themselves over.

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in January - pg 25

Liverpools tactic was pass , pass , through ball....pass , pass ,through ball....it should never take 2 passes to cut through another team (let alone continuously doing it). Rodgers did an absolute job onWenger in the first half (but tbf he didn't think Wenger was silly enough to play that midfield 3).

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in January - pg 25

I think Dempsey and Defoe do not and will not ever work well together, they both need a more creative partner. While Adebayor is away, I think Holtby would be the better option behind Defoe.

Once Adebayor is back I think he could bring the best out of Dempsey (although we have rarely seen this partnership so far), so I would start with Dempsey at AM and would like to see Holtby given a try at cutting in from the right, which could in turn bring the best out of Walker's attacking potential. That's not to say Lennon deserves to be dropped, he has had a pretty good season so far, but he needs a rest and Holtby is an interesting option for many positions, and right wing is one we have been desperate for cover in for years.

Based on his performance tonight I think Holtby will also be a far more suitable deputy for Dembele than Huddlestone. Will be interesting to see if AVB ever decides to pick a CM pairing of Dembele and Holtby, lots of industry but no real ballwinner there.

The stats say Parker made 5 tackles and 5 interceptions tonight where Dembele made 3 tackles and 0 interceptions.

There is no way I would have Michael Brown of his Spurs days over Parker. Missed most of the match today, so I don't know how badly he played but Parker really hasn't been that bad overall this season. He is no Sandro, granted, but Michael Brown!?

Look at the ratings thread. Parker was atrocious tonight.

I'd have Jenas over Parker in fact, he lacks a spine and guts but at least he can play football and tackle.

Edit: Well Jenas in his Heyday when he was the brightspot in a Zokora Jenas midfield axis.

That's one game Crawley...does that really warrant ridiculous comments where people call for him to be sold, or Michael Brown is better? there must be a limit.

Any other player came back from a long term lay off and i guarantee there would be uproar at such exaggerated comments but for Parker it's justified. He won our player of the season last year so he couldn't just turn into a bad player overnight...it's obviously something more than that (LIKE A 6 MONTH LAY OFF MAYBE).

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in January - pg 25

I agree with the previous poster who said how Holtby looked as though he'd been with the team for a lot longer than two days. Excellent vision, enthusiasm, got straight into the pace of the game and brought Lennon/Bale/Dembele into things with his quick passing and movement. Great signing.

..............New striker (or a rejuvenated Ade returning from ACN)
Bale.................Holtby...................... .Lennon
..............Parker(Sandro)....Dembele
BAE....Kaboul....Dawson....Walker
................Hugo..................
