Think it means we need to sign a new back-up keeper over the summer for next season (and play Lloris in the remaining 5 UEFA cup games).

Blame the manager. Friedel is a good solid keeper, but we all know his weakness is staying on the line. Our manger has seen enough of him to know this. I don't have a problem with playing him in this competition but dont play him if you're going to insist on keeping a high line....

Ironically, the games against Burnley and tonight's against Inter were very similar. I don't think either 'keeper (Alnwick or Freidel) could do much about the goals that were conceded, but the overall team performance (from the people in front of them) in both games was shocking.

I remember feeling hollow as I walked out of Turf Moor and I have the same feeling tonight, but heigh-ho, were are still "in the hat".

thought he played ok and made some good saves - unfortunately whenever he plays there will always be instances where you think "Lloris would have come out and claimed that" when the ball gets played in behind the defense

I can't believe this thread. Well, actually I can because I have seen these kind of comments about Friedel before from a few posters. It would be ridiculopus to suggest that Friedel was at fault for any of the goals today. None of them came after balls played in behind us that Lloris could have intercepted if he had played.

The way defended was shocking, especially in the first half. We were standing there with a high line, not dropping off even when Inter's players were on the ball with no pressure on them. It's the first thing you learn in terms of defending, isn't it? WHen the man in possession is not under pressure, you have to drop off. It had nothing to do with Friedel though.

He may not have got there before the attackers, but he would have closed down enough so that only an amazing first time hit or a very good bit of control would have lead to a goal.

The fact is that we can't train the defenders in two forms of defending - Walker and Gallas can barely cope with one. We simply have to defend the old English way and keep Friedel, or defend the way we do an never play him. Whilst it would be particularly harsh on Friedel (especially if he's been promised all the unimportant matches) Tottenham comes first and he has to be dropped.

I don't think Lloris would have dealt any better then Freidel.


The main issue was the lack of pressure from the midfielders, they allowed Inter time to pick their passes.


Was a bad performance from a number of people, none particularly more then others though.

AVB wants to win this trophy but has sensibly rotated the squad and played fringe players up till now. However, we now have a real chance of winning his thing. Ahead of Cheatski in the league, won two tougher qualifiers, we should be favourites now (but we won't be). AVB will now start playing the strongest available team.

Brad has been kept in the Europa league side for sentimental reasons. Maybe to persuade him to stay. Lloris the better keeper all-round. I think he will start next round, today's performance only helps his case.

Interesting that Spurs have now conceded 50 goals this season which is exactly split between Brad Friedel & Hugo Lloris with 25 conceded each.

However, Lloris has conceded a goal on average for every 90 minutes played compared with Friedel conceding a goal on average for every 62.4 minutes played.

Very telling stats, but maybe worth checking which goalie has played the most euro games?

Because we generally field weaker teams in the euros and despite what AVB says you are not going to tell me we put the same amount of commitment into those games as we do the Prem.
