Saw The Witch (I thinks it's spelt VVitch) over the weekend.

It appears to be set in modern day Bolton (or maybe the US in the early 17th century - hard to tell). Not a bad little horror film, I suspect the version that first got to the editors/censors was a bit more effective but good all the same

I've watched Ice Age Collision Course & Star Trek (the latest one) in the last few days.

I thought the Ice Age movie was terrible, simplistic and barely delivered a fun moment, even the Scrat scenes, previously a highlight from the other Ice Age movies, were lacklustre this time.

As for Star Trek, I'd give it a 3 out of 5, a decent watch but nothing more. And without Zoe Saldana, the score would fall even lower.

Anybody seen a film called Starred up? It's a prison film. I watched it awhile ago after a lad at work kept going on about it. I thought it was going to be some Danny Dyer type b0ll0cks, but it was actually a very good film.

Loved it.

Excellent film, and Jack whatshisname is a star.

That's a perfect example of a film that could have been so good if it weren't for a few errors ruining it all. Firstly the casting - Will Smith and Margot Robbie were excellent, Margot Robbie's arse pretty much carried the film. Cara Delewhaterverthefudgehernameisyouknowtheonewiththeeyebrows is NOT an actress, she was just simply appalling. Her only saving grace in this film is that she was not Jared Leto. In fact, Harold Shipman can now rest easy in his grave knowing that he is not Jared Leto.

I cannot stress just how awful his performance was. I simply could not lose myself in this film because every second he was on screen (mercifully few), I was constantly reminded that there was a person in front of a camera doing some acting (and feeling really fudging smug about his "method" performance too I suspect). He aimed for somewhere between Nicholson and Ledger but topped out at Nicolas Cage in Face/Off. That's probably a little unfair on Cage.

One other person able to sleep tonight purely due to not being Jared Leto is the editor. At times it was like watching a trailer for the film rather than the film itself. You would get a snap, 8 second scene and then switch to another, then it would happen again. I've since read that the film went in for a number of rewrites and it shows - there are clearly sections just jammed in either to provide comic relief or to avoid the audience having to engage brains at any point.

I'm also not impressed with having to be taken by the hand and dragged through the reasoning as to why I'm allowed to like some of the 'bad' characters in the film. I don't want to like bad guys because they're good, I want to like bad guys because I like them. Give me a funny and charismatic character and I will like them - don't feed me loads of flimflam Hollywood nice guy/bad situation gonads, that's not what Suicide Squad should be about.

It's a rant, for sure. But, unfortunately, I think it was justified.

Ultimately, DC have seen how well Marvel played out their Cinematic Universe and thought "Let's have a pop at that". Instead of a gentle build and one or two films that were a bit dire (Hulk), DC have tried to cram too much in too quickly.

Personally I'm a bit DC fan and prefer their comics to those of Marvel, but it's hasn't been transferred at all well, onto the big screen.

Suicide Squad was edited poorly and for non-comic fans, it didn't allow characters back stories to be digested. It was one quick set piece after another. As someone that has read most of their story arcs, I was comfortable with who they are and where they had come from, but I know the Mrs got a little lost.

I'm disappointed by both Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad and had hoped that the new franchise, led by Man of Steel, would have been much better.

Suicide Squad was awful. I was lucky that I'd had a few drinks before..only wishing that I'd stayed at the pub instead of watching that dross.

Will be glad when all the superhero/comic book films die a very natural and overdue death.

Other than the earlier batman films they all are third rate tripe!
