I have control of the TV tonight and didn't expect it.
Can anyone recommend a good man film to watch? I've already started the wine so I don't want something particularly thinky

just back from the remake of Ghostbusters, was pretty decent for me, funny cast, good effects and references and cameo's from the original classic film
You're a funny guy.Bad Neighbours.
Yes, and I think that's one of his better onesI watched Hateful Eight last night, i like a bit of Tarantino.

I'd put pulp fiction and inglorious bastards as his bestI did enjoy it for sure, not as great as Pulp Fiction but nothing is.
I'd have Death Proof in there tooI'd put pulp fiction and inglorious bastards as his best

You're too high brow for this forum. Can't beat a Norman Wisdom film, must be a revival on as I see so many young men wearing the jackets.
Saw The Witch (I thinks it's spelt VVitch) over the weekend.
It appears to be set in modern day Bolton (or maybe the US in the early 17th century - hard to tell). Not a bad little horror film, I suspect the version that first got to the editors/censors was a bit more effective but good all the same
Anybody seen a film called Starred up? It's a prison film. I watched it awhile ago after a lad at work kept going on about it. I thought it was going to be some Danny Dyer type b0ll0cks, but it was actually a very good film.
It's a rant, for sure. But, unfortunately, I think it was justified.Suicide Squad:

That's a perfect example of a film that could have been so good if it weren't for a few errors ruining it all. Firstly the casting - Will Smith and Margot Robbie were excellent, Margot Robbie's arse pretty much carried the film. Cara Delewhaterverthefudgehernameisyouknowtheonewiththeeyebrows is NOT an actress, she was just simply appalling. Her only saving grace in this film is that she was not Jared Leto. In fact, Harold Shipman can now rest easy in his grave knowing that he is not Jared Leto.
I cannot stress just how awful his performance was. I simply could not lose myself in this film because every second he was on screen (mercifully few), I was constantly reminded that there was a person in front of a camera doing some acting (and feeling really fudgeing smug about his "method" performance too I suspect). He aimed for somewhere between Nicholson and Ledger but topped out at Nicolas Cage in Face/Off. That's probably a little unfair on Cage.
One other person able to sleep tonight purely due to not being Jared Leto is the editor. At times it was like watching a trailer for the film rather than the film itself. You would get a snap, 8 second scene and then switch to another, then it would happen again. I've since read that the film went in for a number of rewrites and it shows - there are clearly sections just jammed in either to provide comic relief or to avoid the audience having to engage brains at any point.
I'm also not impressed with having to be taken by the hand and dragged through the reasoning as to why I'm allowed to like some of the 'bad' characters in the film. I don't want to like bad guys because they're good, I want to like bad guys because I like them. Give me a funny and charismatic character and I will like them - don't feed me loads of hogwash Hollywood nice guy/bad situation cobblers, that's not what Suicide Squad should be about.
