O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

Considering how much he's been making in recent years, does he really need so much more?

He won't last a year there. Will probably spend the next few years going to gradually lesser leagues for more money. Or maybe some oil rich nation will have him for a while. Until they lose a match at least.

I listened to that episode and have listened to the podcast almost since its inception.

The man with the Capello out story is a very astute guy. From what I can tell, he knows quite a few people that have been/are involved with Spurs.

He was the first I am aware of (apart from knee jerkers) to warn about the Ramos incompetence - a few matches after the League cup - and got totally slaughtered for it at the time.
He was bang on about Redknapp some days/weeks before we got him.

Not sure if he is that successful percentage-wise though. I was listening to a bit of that podcast before the game yesterday and I think he admitted as much himself! Was he the one who said Berbatov back to Spurs, Redknapp to Chelsea last summer? (Incidently, how different THAT could have all made things this year, especially as a lot of people were raving about AVB at the time..... another world eh?).

Capello-Redknapp swap is a the sort of theory that makes sense you dont really need to be properly ITK to suggest.
As is Redknapp to England Capello to Madrid Mourinho to Spurs. I doubt if that al will happen but its not the most unlikely of scenarios.

Capello is in Moscow negotiating with Anzhi Mahachkala.

Good luck with that Fabio thats the footballing equivalent of getting a "security" job in Iraq. Money is good but that is about it. Unless you count getting Samuel Eto's autograph.

Agreed, by his own admission he doesn't get it right often but I enjoy listening to him anyway, especially what he said about the Ramos saga.

Im sure he has potential, his Porto achievements were impressive - Im thinking more along the lines of this being to much to soon.

Chelsea isnt a poisoned chalice, Ranieri did well, Mourinho did brilliantly, Grant did well and Hiddink was doing brilliantly in his short time there.

AVBs trouble at this point is, IMO, he is trying to change to much to soon.

I disagree tbh, I think the problem with AVB is that he is caught between 2 stools. He wants to change it but can't quite manage to have that clean sweep which I think is what it needs. They have far too many players at the club who are enshrined in playing 4-3-3 and don't want it any other way. Too many players from previously disrupted regimes as well.

They will never get the best from Torres whilst that system with those specific players is employed because it is built around having someone who holds the ball up - Drogba, as it has been for the last 8 years, not someone who wants to play on the shoulder. They need to get rid of Drogba, Kalou, Lampard, Mikel for starters and probably a few others as well. This should have been done gradually in the last 3-4 windows starting with Mikel and Kalou but its been neglected and now AVB has it all to do.

It will prove a very tall order for them in the summer regardless of whether they qualify for the champions league or not given the FFP rules, too many signings in one window are going to be needed so I predict another season of transition at Chelsea next year.

On a side note, definitely not in favour of Capello taking our job. His past record is fantastic but to my mind he is a bit of a relic. Today you have to be a counsellor, a prison officer, social worker and CEO all in one to take care of the multiple personalities. He has shown that he doesn't really want to be here in England and then we have the language factor, another place we have been before and it all ended in tears.

I would have the same arguments with regards us employing Van Gaal apart from the fact he can speak English. Its a management style that doesn't lend itself to players feeling wanted and valued and for me thats a dated concept so a definitive NO for me on Capello.

Chelsea werent a team in transition, until he got there

They were a team with ageing players, one of which is an average defender quite easily replaced, the other a goalscoring midfielder. Perhaps so not easily replaced but hardly impossible.

AVB has instead tried to implement an entire new system, in a short space of time, which with the pressures of an expected title challenge was incredibly foolish IMHO.

I can see he knows his stuff, that he has potential and that one day he might be a brilliant manager, but also that he is struggling desperately in a situation HE created.

Suggests to me he isnt ready for the job, and if he isnt ready for Chelsea why would he be ready to take a team on on the cusp of title contention?

Fair comments mate. But your last question implies that the Spurs job is bigger than the Chelsea one which I would disagree with and I've just got a feeling this guy would achieve great things with us.

Sometimes for no apparent reason a good manager just doesn't work at certain clubs, and I never thought he was the right man for Chelsea. I've just got a hunch AVB would be good for us, and I for one would be happy to see him as our next manager. No problem with your arguments against, you make some valid points....

I doubt Capello would want to stay in England. He never really seems to have understood or liked the culture.

And of all clubs, Spurs-Capello seems a total misfit. Chelsea-Capello makes a bit more sense.

Not that the Spurs job is bigger, but it is at least somewhere near equal at this point in time.

So my point was more that if he has shown he apparently cant hack it at this level, why would a move to us (sideways? certainly not down) be successful?

I certainly cant say for sure that he wouldnt do a good job, you could well be right and he might be amazing.

My real issue at this point is that I see much of his problems of his own making, not the best sign.

I know what you mean though, I had a real gut feeling Deschamps could be an inspired move - there really isnt any logic to that on my part, pure gut feel!

My biggest question over AVB is why keeps playing the same aging, 'couldn't care less' players. As Chelsea have slowly disappeared from the title race, so has the motivation for a number of their players. Chelsea are in need of rebuilding, why not give some experience to some youngsters? They currently have about 11 players out on loan. Surely there must be one or two that could provide them with something.

Probably as the players have a lot of power there still and he doesnt want them moaning to Abramovich about him.

I'm really beginning to like Pardew. Came in under such a bad cloud with the dismissal of Hughton, but has turned Saudi Sportswashing Machine into a quality side. The most endearing thing for me is that he is so humble and not a complete clam like Wenger, Dalglish, Mancini, and Villas-Boas.

Really hope they get 4th.

i don't really like Pardew, something about him rubs me the wrong way

good post match interview from him yesterday though i agree

And he actually admits when he fudges up! I'm amazed about his proud honesty and impressed by the results he has displayed over the course of the season.

JJetset on SC

Harry likes playing games with Daniel in the press and I will tell you why.
He would love the England job but would prefer a new improved deal at Spurs!!
Currently he has 15 months left on his deal and he wants an extension or a better contract.
Problem in all of this is that Daniel won't extend his contract as he believes Harry has 15 months left.....!!!
So Harry uses the press to try and force Daniels hand. Maybe one time Daniel will sometime cave in but then never does!! He does have to be careful though with this one as H will walk on principle.
