O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

Emmanuel Adebayor believes Harry Redknapp must stay at Tottenham Hotspur for the rest of the season after insisting England need the White Hart Lane boss more.

Redknapp is the overwhelming favourite to replace Fabio Capello as England coach following the Italian's resignation earlier in the week.

He is also the popular choice with the players and supporters after helping to transform Tottenham into Premier League title contenders during his time in charge.

Spurs enjoyed a stunning 5-0 victory over Saudi Sportswashing Machine on Saturday and Redknapp received the adulation from the home supporters throughout the game.

Adebayor created four and scored one of Spurs' goals and he called on Redknapp to stay in North London, at least until the end of the campaign.

Confidence

"He has to stay until the end of the season and from there we'll see," Adebayor told ESPN.

"He gives us confidence, he has done a lot for me when I was going through difficult moments.

"I think England need him more than Tottenham but I assure you he'll be here until the end of the season and then we'll see what happens."

Fellow striker Louis Saha, who scored twice on his home debut, added: "He gives confidence to the squad and the players, it's a real joy to play for him.

"I've just been here a few weeks but I've seen a rise in confidence and already improved, and I owe him a lot."

I think Harry is too clever to take over a national team a few weeks before a major tournament.
There's not he can do with the side in that time and he would be on a hiding to nothing.
He'll let someone else take the can for the upcoming euro's disaster and take a well deserved break.

i think Harry is too clever to take the England job full stop - he knows he cant build a team like he usually would.

the problem isnt his footballing intellect - its how much of an influence his heart has over his final decision.

I thought he fronted up well in the post match interview.

Praised us and took responsibility for his naive starting line up.

Would rather Pardew was the next England manager than Harry, that's for sure.

I could list everyone I'd rather than harry, but I don't know the name of every football manager (actual and video game) in the world I'm afraid

I think that it is the perfect time to take over. Most managers would pick roughly the same squad, so there isn't an issue bedding in players. You have three weeks and two friendlies to get the playing how you want. Finally, expectation is low, if you make the last eight your stock is high, last four and you are a hero. Knocked out in the group stage; blame Capello and the Terry affair. If Harry takes on the England job this summer and then walks away, he can't lose.

I think media will carefully build up expectations to such a point that anything but an appeareance in the final will be considered, by the media, a failure. And the media run the world.

Agreed. It could be a win win situation for Harry and us, if he takes June/July out for England, then returns to the Lane to prepare for the Champions League. Even he won the thing he could bow out for a younger man - always leave on a high with them asking for more.

Harry is very good at damping down expectation, playing the media and taking pressure off of the players.

If he takes the job you can guarantee that he will talk how tough the group is, how England have a great group of players but so do France and Sweden but that they will give it their best shot and see how they get on in every press conference.

I was worried when capello resigned on Wednesday night but after tonight's commitment from everyone i feel better.

In fact Capello leaving was good news. Harry will carry on thinking about winning the league while the fa will start losing their time over the next manager. They'll have to make a decision at some point.

If Capello hadnt gone, Harry would have been the manager in July. Hopefully they can get someone now, on a long contract. Only problem is that apart from Harry there arents many candidates..

Only managing England in a handful of competitive games did wonders for Venables reputation and we only played well in a couple of those games too.

Harry's been wonderful for us, but the more I think about it, the more I've come to realise that we have an outstanding group of players whoever's at the helm. I hope he doesn't leave, but if he does we have the reputation and transfer budget to attract the type of manager who'll keep up this kind of form.

You've got to love Arsenal fans making comments like "hopefully he'll hurry up and leave to leave Tottenham in the brick". This is the same 'dodgy' Harry Redknapp who they've previously described as "tactically clueless", yet now he's suddenly the sole reason for our success?

We do have an outsanding group of players, and you are right to be confident that a new manager can build on what Harry has achieved. But it is revealing just how respected he is. They all come out and praise him to the hilt which says an awful lot about how much effect he has.

The point is we need a manager who, at the very least, the players are motivated by and love as much as Harry. Any of the current PL managers who are doing well, will struggle to get the respect of some of the big names. Mourinho certainly is adored by some of his players, but some have also been left cold by him (of course you can argue the same for Harry), plus there is that constant fear of how he will set us up to play, the circus that surrounds him, and his tendency to only reign for a short time. The only other outstanding candidate for me is Hiddink, and he has been out of club management for a while (bar his short stint at Chelsea). Just such a shame Ancelotti couldn't wait it out a bit longer.
I do believe that if we get the right man, he can build on this squad and take it further than any of us realistically dream. It's just getting that guy, and I certainly don't envy Levy that task.

Football Association chairman David Bernstein has made it clear that Harry Redknapp has caught his eye as having all the credentials to become the new England manager.

And Bernstein has also insisted that the FA does not fear having to pay a sizeable fee, and a salary to go with it, to get the man they want to replace Fabio Capello. It will not "penny pinch" to get its man.

Bernstein said: "We live in the real world and understand the hype. The guy (Redknapp) has done amazingly. Really we think he is a fine manager and he's English.

"I am not concerned about the hype. This job is still so attractive to many people that we will get interest from serious parties despite this particular hype. I'm not bothered about it, it's a fact of life.

"I think it's a magnificent job, I really do. Clearly it's incredibly challenging. There have been problems in the past, maybe there will be some in the future but I think it's a wonderful job.

"The fact that we haven't had huge success as an international side in the past years is the opportunity. He hasn't got to win the World Cup to be regarded as successful, maybe getting us to a semi-final or something like that.

"Everything is in place with St George's Park (the national football centre) opening later this year maybe it's easier and there are more positives for someone to go forward than in the past.

"Age for the new man isn't an issue. I'm 68 so I don't think for the right people age should be a barrier. The right people will have the energy and it's the energy that is important.

"You can have someone who is pretty old at 40 and someone who is very young at 60 odd. It's not about 50 or 60 matches in a year so in a way you could say it's more suited to an older person than club management where the demands are absolutely incessant.

"Since I have been here I have been absolutely consistent that yes, there may well be a preference for an English or British manager but we will not confine our search to that. We want the right person but clearly there is a national preference.

"A quick decision isn't necessarily a good decision so let's use the time sensibly. We don't want to leave it to May though, that's for sure.

"We won't be penny pinching on this, whatever our views on past salaries might be. We will pay what we need to pay. We will have to assess the position with any candidates."

Harry said it himself: it's all about wages, and players will go where the wages are. Of course, the most worrying bit is that the FA might try to swoop in before our season ends.

I hope they do something in the near future. We don't need all this speculation for the next 3 months.

He's going lads, he can't turn down the FA. I'm severely fudged off about this though as I desperately want him to stay and don't think another manager can do what he does for us. He's an awesome manager.

I fudging hate football just as we were becoming the nuts the FA and the media fcuk it up.
