O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

Moyes has done a great job at Everton, no denying that - however ive always had the feeling he'd be the wrong man for the job at Spurs

i think the fact is that if we want to keep Modders, etc, we will need a Mourinho, a Hiddink, someone with that pedigree (NOT van Gaal, that would be a nightmare!)...

i don't agree with that

i think we will hold on to our players this summer regardless of the stature of the new manager (should Redknapp leave) - whats important is that we have a good season next year and the new man impresses and wins over the players by being good at his job - if we have a bda season next year the players will want out regardless of who the manager is

Wait, are you telling me that leading black Muslim Americans is not your specialist topic on mastermind?

strangely, no..........

The problem is with a lot of people who are pro parker is that they cannot accept that there exists alternatives to him for different games. Against wolves Hudd would have been more use; against teams with power in midfield like chelsea you deploy both Sandro and Parker. People are determined to put him as first on the teamsheet, even ahead of modric. He is a player you go to if you need to defend games or mark out a playmaker but if we were breaking down teams who sat in front of their keeper there would be no need for him as Hudd can act as the Deep Lying playmaking anchor. Parker will not win you games, but he'll save us from losing games. If we want to win games we need to play a more expansive passer as the basis for our team. A DM needs to link the defence to the midfield; like an AM or no10 links midfield to attack. They need to be quick at recycling possession when under pressure and Parker is not that man. He should be our go to man for games away against City/Arsenal/UTD; tough games where our best hope is a draw but against teams where we are expected to beat I want Hudd in there or even Livermore who recycles the ball better than parker. Sandro will however become better than both parker and Hudd as he appears to be on the same wavelength as the other players in terms of our pass and move game unlike Parker who looks clueless going forward and exchanges one two's with the centrebacks all the time. He also already has that bite and energy that Hudd lacks too.

I think I got that, formatting and punk_tu_ation helps

:D

The leading contender to become the next manager of England, Harry Redknapp, expects to see out the remainder of the season with Tottenham.

Redknapp is the overwhelming frontrunner to replace Fabio Capello and it appears only a matter of time before he receives an official approach from the Football Association.

However, with Stuart Pearce confirmed as caretaker boss for February's friendly against Holland, there is no immediate rush to make an appointment.

And with no games to play until two weeks after the Premier League season has finished, there must be a chance Redknapp will be allowed to remain with Spurs to try to engineer a successful conclusion to a stellar campaign so far.

"I hope so," said Redknapp. I'd be very surprised if I didn't finish the season with Tottenham, that's for sure.

Scenario

"I haven't thought about not being here at the end of the season and I've got no idea why I shouldn't."

It does seem like a plausible scenario, which would allow Redknapp to take over England duties for the friendlies against Norway and Belgium, then into a Euro 2012 campaign.

Redknapp has admitted to uncertainty over whether the England job could be done part-time, but in these circumstances, it is difficult to see why not, if he wants the job.

It seems Redknapp's plan would be to massage the egos of England's underperforming stars, if he was to become manager.

As jocular as his approach seems to be, he has mastered the art of getting the most from his players, which does not just happen with a laugh and a joke.

Rubbish

Capello tried the disciplined method, which met with resistance, and Redknapp uses his own example to show that words of praise may get better results.

"England have got great players, it's about getting the best out of them," he said.

"It's the same for everyone. If the editor is telling you you're doing a great job, you feel good.

"If he keeps telling you you are rubbish, it's murder. Your confidence goes. We all want a pat on the back.

"I want the chairman to say, 'well done' to me. I love it if he says, 'Harry, you aren't half doing a good job for us'."

I have far greater respect for Malcolm, especially later on in his life, than I do for the 'honorable' Elijah Mohamed, I'll put it that way.

Love the ironing how Moyes's name has come up for defending us when media talk is unsettling our manager ... So we talk about poaching him!

Moyes has been mentioned in this thread and elsewhere since the Capello resignation. Bit of a difference mind you having a few fans on a message board debate possible options and current england internationals, former high-profile players and current managers talking about our manager leaving to lead England. So the irony is not as strong as you think. I was merely pointing out - in response to a post about what Moyes said admittedly - that he would be on the list if some of the other names mentioned are. Would hope whatever happens that our Chairman is respectful in how he deals with the situation, and the chances are we won't end up with a Moyes, Martinez, Coyle or Rodgers. But really not sure how we are unsettling...if so we'd have to shut down debate/discussion on all sorts of things.

I'm yet to be convinced by Sandro and Parker together. I was interested in seeing it when Parker joined but I think that they go for too many of the same balls and the team lacks attacking options and balance.

I can't wait to have Hudd back and am intrigued by how he will fit into the current team.

My preference would be for a Sandro/Hudd/Modric midfield 3. Those three will not tread on each others toes.

If we go for a more established manager it's got to be the right fit for the club. And not simply someone going through the motions having won it all elsewhere. Harry had a point to prove with Spurs, being that he could acheive things at a big club.

As well as the lack of goals which MK points out you also have the problem of who would you play in front of that. Adebayor and Bale pick themselves which leaves you with a choice between VdV and Lennon. Pick VdV and we lack pace other than through Bale. Pick Lennon and we lack goals.

Everton boss David Moyes says the England speculation is unfair to Tottenham and their fans.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is clear favourite for the job.

Moyes told evertonfc.com: "I don't have a great opinion on it. It's up to the English FA to do their business and do what they have to do.

""I think it's unfair on Tottenham Hotspur and their supporters and their players. Harry's got a team at this present time that are going for the Premier League and trying to qualify for the Champions League. "

"I think it's a bit disrespectful to all the people who support Tottenham that everybody should be talking about their manager just now."

He added: "I think [Redknapp] has to get on with his own job. He's got Tottenham in a great position, he's got a really good team at Tottenham, so I think his focus will be totally on winning his next game."

Shame it only seems to be Moyes saying it...
