It certainly looked like that was the mindset of the team, and that is even more scary!!! We should at least try, regardless of injuries and other circumstances!!
The team should go out on that pitch and believe, and play to win. And it is the managers responsibility to instil that mindset into the players. On todays showing, he looks incapable of that. Didn't look much better in the previous two games either, but we got lucky with the results there.
Think this team looks much worse than last season. A bit more solid defensively, but we offer very, very little going forward.
 
Even with his selection we played like with 10 men from the start. It was inefficient and Dele was doing nothing except when he came back to defend. Moura was getting penetration but could not link up. Winks peh and Skipp, defensive as they were, wasn't really providing the screen needed to tighten the midfield. We lost most of the 50-50s too. It was a fragmented display. Wolves and Palace have worse players but the better team. Wolves has a new manager too.

Its been a problem for longer than than nuno has been here.
Not that I'm giving him a free ride today because that was awful, but we really lack belief and trust in ourselves.
 
Next home game will be interesting, maybe even pivotal, for NES.

Not against City. In that game we clearly had a plan, everyone followed that plan, they believed, and it worked. After that it's been pretty poor. Good results, poor performances.

Home game, got lucky, probably said "just try and defend it and then when we aren't go towards that onion bag and try and get it in there".

That was the only change that needed to be made today to play a 4231.

No one is an 8/10 in a 4/3/3
The system we okay is about the attacking 3 getting the goals and everyone else doing the work they can’t or won’t don

The system isn't ok, we don't have anyone to get the ball from midfield into the front 3.
We need to change the system to reflect the players we have playing. Either that or get
at least one of Ndombele or Lo Celso on the pitch. And yes, I'm aware of the probs around
that

Yes, the last sentence is key if we want to play 433. Currently we don't have the players to move the ball from the midfield 3 (3 defensive players) into the front 3.
We have the players for a 4231, Skipp and PEH are good for the 2 at the base of midfield (not perfect, a better passer in there would be better), then we have the players for a front 4.
Play the system that we have the players for.
 
I really just think today was one of those just majorly brick days at the office, and not much can be read into Nuno’s aptitude for the job around it.

Reason being, his whole strategy comes down to winning the game in the second half, and being solid in the first. Given the injuries, we pretty much did the first half ok. Not by any means great, definitely could have been way better, but we just needed to be solid.

Second half, it was one thing after another. On another day, Zaha gets red. Japh gets it 2 mins later - and from that point on we’re fudged. We need to be able to make the game in the second half and everything went against us.

I think if you accept Nuno as a solid first half, find the spaces in the second half guy, then this match doesn’t feel like the worst thing ever. When we were going to have to push for the game, everything went against us. brick happens. We go again. If you’re expecting Poch style football from minute 1, that’s never going to be him, and I don’t think we can hold the fact that he isn’t someone else against him.

He’s a good guy. He knows what he’s doing. We just had a very bad day at the office. We’ll struggle to have so much go against us in one game for the rest of the season I’d say. We’ll certainly lose other games, but this was just annoyingly bad.

I can only think NES thought Kane/Dele closer to each other but i agree, not in that shape and should not have changed midfield. Maybe Gil was too tired to start?
