I do think that this constant speculation and prospective candidates speaking out is destabilising. I am beginning to think that the club should say what its intentions are so that the players can concentrate on the matter in hand.

I agree that this would be good, but which intentions can be clarified by the club?

It seems very likely that our intentions are to re-evaluate come the summer and unless Sherwood performs brilliantly we'll be looking for a new man, but unless we have a signature already what can the club actually come out and say? And wouldn't that just further undercut Sherwood?

Not a good situation to be in for sure, but I don't see any great options available to the club right now.

I guess that's what Chelsea did with Benitez (after learning their lesson with Di Matteo)

We should probably have formally made him 'Interim Tim', instead of 'Intern Tim', but that brings its own problems. I think it would have been slightly preferable though.

I'm not sure. I'm just not very keen on having prospective candidates jockeying for the role whilst we still have something to play for this season.

Ideally there's a contract already in place with LvG, and for Timmeh and Holland's sake we've agreed not to announce it till after the WC (I guess we are learning our lessons from summer 2004 with the untenable interim Pleat and the extra media attention on Santini at those Euros).

The key thing is slyly communicating this to Verts and Lloris so they don't get too far out of the door.

Or it might motivate the players, knowing the new guy is already watching, assessing them?

It also gives the fans something positive to focus on - a light at the end of the tunnel, a(nother) new dawn etc.

Not sure we could stop that unless we have a contract signed and announced, and not sure we can get a contract signed until the summer.

Prospective candidates will be asked by the media and they will answer... Such is life.

You are of course right.

It is a bit like the situation with Redknapp but in reverse lets hope the outcome is the reverse.

well, Levy has worked his way around europe to find the ideal coach/manager...... Since his first appointment in Hoddle weve had a French, a Dutch, a Spanish, an English and a Portuguese boss. Time for an Italian???:-k

I agree it can't be any good for the players with all the constant speculation. Then again, we currently have a manager with little experience on an 18 month contract, what is the likelihood a club with our ambitions will stick with him?

100% agree. The players dont believe in Sherwood. Meanwhile Sherwood has gone from playing good football to getting 4th at all costs to save his job.

I think it is impossible to say that. Yesterday's lacklustre performance looked to me a lot like the lacklustre performances in the first half of the season. Maybe we've just got lacklustre players.

i think there is something in this, i thought a few of them were phoning it in under AVB as well

Did anyone hear that Marcel bloke on Talkshiite? He was bigging up LvG, saying he doesn't need a load of super stars to win things. He also stated that Levy met LvG at his apartment (LvGs) as fact, and this was this year, ie after the 'permanent' appointment of TS.
Never sure if it's a PR move by LvG or just journo stuff.
I really hope we get him now.

Gutter Boy posted the video of that in this thread I think. It defintely happened, it was a feature on a Dutch football show. The panel were discussing LvG to Spurs and then played the clip of their reporter outside vG's house whilst Levy was allegedly inside.

I dont mind Sherwood I think he's done as good a job as he could have considering the circumstances, however if he doesnt get 4th we all know he's off.

After the sacking of AVB I wanted big Frankie De Boer but after yesterdays performance and thinking back to all the similar performances we have had over the years when we needed to kick and pick up points from worthless games only for us to lose, I want Louis Van Gall that guy wont have that and will let players know. Ok some players wont like him telling them how it is but tuff completely had enough of gutless performances by us, we need Sandro back in the side asap.
