But these amazing players you are talking about...nobody was talking about them like that before Pochettino took over there. Lallana, Rodriguez and Lambert weren't nailed on England squad members, Clyne wasn't being linked to Man Utd. He's made those players look as good as they have done and i don't think they'd look as good in a different team

They have a long line of young players comng through. Noone was talking about Townsend a year ago for England, does that mean our coaches have done an amazing job? I'm not dismissing him as I like the way they play but I don't particularly think they've overachieved, but do play attractive football.....

I just want a candidate that will get everyone on board and sold on the vision of a better Spurs under his stewardship. At the moment all 3 candidates seem to have support and critics. Spurs fans really are hard to please

That is my concern about Benetez, I think that the fans would soon tire of his football and turn on him.

I think suggesting anything other than a relegation battle is not overachieving is to massively overestimate the size of Mos Eisley FC.

I am not convinced by Poch, not convinced at all, but I would give him an opportunity. I dont think he would take us to that next level though but appreciate that he has spoken about 'projects' before etc which gives me some comfort that he would liek to build something long term and is constantly thinking about progression.

Yeah but Townsend hasn't actually looked that well coached this season, or like an England-quality player half the time. He did better for England than he did for Spurs.

All Southampton's players have been playing to a level higher than their reputation suggests and not only that, their team performance is in excess to their individual quality IMO.

I think there are 2 clear directions we could go.

Benitez would be a Redknapp appointment. Someone who's done it before who can come in and provide a bit of stability.

Or FDB or Poch who would be looking to build something.

FDB or Poch would be given more time. Benitez would be expected to hit the ground running.

If we went Benitez, I'd expect a cup final at least.

The thing is - if that doesnt happen then we are back to square one.

The up side... Not sure he's the answer, but he's a safe bet if he really is interested. He might still feel he has something to prove in England.

would they?? by who? the fans, Levy, or both.........i think if after a year the results are average, or if the team is not playing attractive football then there will be big pressure on both FDB or Poch

But equally if we appoint Pochettino and come November we're 13th and 13 points off 4th, he'll be sacked. It's the Tottenham way.
I admire people backing a manager ho is looking to build something, but this is not the club for that. Levy won't have it. He's the ultimate 'hire 'em, fire 'em' chairman after Abramovich.
On the basis that no manager will be given a period of time (in the way for example Rodgers was given a first season to make his signings and find his feet at Liverpool) then we might as well bite the bullet and go for either a good amount of experience or recent winning record.
FdB's recent record together with the fact he played at the highest level in Europe make him the man for the job in my view.
I've read all the arguments on Pochettino (Southampton play good football, etc) but for me, given the limited time he'll b given by Levy, we need someone who can get results, not play pretty.

Ah well I disagree there mate, they are a medium sized club to me - decent stadium, money to spend but anyway I wouldn't mind him as he plays a good style of football. But would much rather someone who has proved they can win things, ie Benitez. If Rafa isn't available then I'd happily take Poch or FDB but if he and it sounds like he could be interested(if only rumours) I would be disappointed if we didnt get him....

Harry 4 years nearly Jol 3 years that's half of levy/Enics tenure in fairness the ones that were sacked all deserved it/earned it by being utter tripe

For what its worth I am firmly of the opinion that avb quit dont know why just a feeling

Personality issues aside, I honestly think we wouldn't have sacked AVB if it weren't for the thrashings. If instead of losing those games 5-0 we lost 1-0 he'd still be our boss.

I think Levy believes in a "project" and so would have stuck by Rodgers like Liverpool did. I see FDB and Poch as project managers, Rafa not so.

Finding that boss tho would be difficult. I can just see FDB hitching his skirt for Barca as soon as he gets a bit of a groove on with us.

Benitez on the other hand has nothing to prove. He's done Real Madrid, Inter, Chelsea. He doesn't need to prove himself. I'd think he'd be less likely to leave if successful and bigger clubs started circling.

Think he's a bit too similar to Eriksen/there's a good chance Poch will use Eriksen in that position in his 4-3-2-1.

With Eriksen and Chadli, I'd prefer we got a more dynamic/quicker paced LWF.

Don't know - it was before I was born. I've just seen the iconic pictures of the start.

You're talking like Poch is a done deal (much like you did with LVG). You realise it's not done yet right?
