With whom did we have a "general agreement" in place?
It costs time and money to negotiate with players/managers, I really find weird that you genuinely think we spent two+ weeks talking to Conte with no real intention.
A few years ago I went for a job, found out they offered it to someone with more experience but the guy accepted an offer somewhere else. They came back to me and offered me the job, I still happily took it - was a better role, bigger company and more money. I don't envisage a football manager feeling any different....I don't really see that as an issue tbh. If the job is of interest to someone, then I don't think they'd be put off by that. It happens, that's life, but if you get a job you want in the end, then I don't think it really matters. It does however possibly put that person in a stronger negotiating position.
Did you really think he would listen and understand?
Bugger off mate, you're way too sensitive about anyone raising any questions about Levy and you're making it personal when that's not what I'm doing - either to Levy or to anyone here.
Just picking up on this last point: you can have all the intention in the world during any discussions. However, tbf to @BrainOfLevy would it really take two weeks to ascertain that Conte and the way he works would be considered high risk/high cost by us?
I mean if we are to believe the media reports that talks between the club and Cont did last that long and did break down for reasons to do with not being able to meet his demands on transfer spend, would you not think it would take far less than two weeks to find that out?
I mean i'd imagine that would be an initial afternoon's chat's worth of time to come to that conclusion given what the club (and every man and his dog) knows about Conte and what he usually demands (plus what the club know about their own constraints)...
Not wrong though was i you going to start moaning about folks trying to close you down again.
Its pretty obvious that the length of time the media speculate about something doesnt equate to the amount of time spent on talks. The media dont pick up on talks happening until after the initial event has happened, and clearly continue to speculate until they hear either he's agreed to sign or its not happening. You seem to place way too much emphasis on the tit bits you've been hearing, but hey ho - you do your thing.....This is exactly the point I was about to make.
No issue at all with us speaking to Conte at all. It would absolutely be the right thing to do - the club's line right now seems to be that we had to speak to him because he is top class and became available. Totally agree with that. What I don't understand is why it took a week or two for these very obvious things to come to the fore, while 'talks were progressing well' in the days before. What exactly were we discussing?
It doesn't make sense.
The only person I've called out for doing that is you, because you make it personal with me. You call me out as some inflexible person with an agenda in replies to other people. I've tried to be as clear as possible; I don't hate Levy, I don't think he's evil, I am just calling out some very specific things.

I don't think it's ever been suggested that we were in talks with Conte for two weeks has it? Not being picky here, just that a 2 week conversation is a whole different thing to a few days, maybe a week. From memory (and not always good for me to rely on that these days!) I think it was about a week from when it was said we had first made contact, to it being reported both parties had walked away. Let's assume talks may have started within a couple of days of making contact, it's barely a week. Granted that's still a good while but we weren't speaking directly with Conte (again, going by reports) but to his 'team'. Maybe we were hearing enough to keep the back and forth going for a few days but in the end it just wasn't right for either party.
And part owner of the club. I mean he can take it as a salary or just take it …"Conte's camp were disappointed that Tottenahm rejected him" - Fabrizio Romano to Chris Cowlin.
Fabrizio also claims there was a £3m difference between Spurs offer and Conte's request. Seems money isn't an issue to pay the salary of the highest paid chairman in the league though.
As i said in my last message just posted, you can flip it the other way: who is to say that the club were in fact talking to Conte for 4 weeks?
