Next Manager?

Getting emotionally invested in our next manager before Spurs announce him, is a surefire way to disappointment. Like most folk here, I can't see a way at the moment where we can do anything but head back to mid-table mediocrity. But hopefully the Club will prove all the harbingers of doom wrong. I'd love a manager who knows the Premier League, & can organise the team to play to their best. Hopefully I'll get my wish........

I'm usually of the mind that the end justifies the means. The delay wouldn't bother me, I'd be willing to give the appointment time.

But this is the biggest clusterfudge in the history of clusterfudges. We look like we have no idea what sort of manager we want, we aren't willing to invest to win and I'm struggling to see who we get that won't be a massive downgrade on Poch or Conte. The way this has been conducted by the club smacks of a scattergun approach with little thought gone into it ahead of time.

Pretty much any appointment now is going to get off on the wrong foot.

'Antonio Conte wanted guarantees that in the event Harry Kane is sold then #thfc would at least invest part of the fee generated. The club refused to agree to this demand.'

If that is even remotely true then might as well pack up and go home.

Again I ask about the mentality of the manager who ends up taking the job.

We're the 8th richest club in world football with the best stadium in Europe and one of the top training academies in England.

In terms of financials and resources we're huge, hence the ESL admission.

We fall over because we have the resources and financials of a big club but not the mentality in the board room and that has been evidenced time and time again. Saha and Nelson say hello.

We were the 8th richest club due to getting to a cl final. The last 2 seasons will have saw a fall in revenue for all clubs but us especially. We are also the most in debt club in the world. Our last financials had us making a £63m loss. Last seasons will be worse.

I can not/do not disagree with most of that, personally i am happy to wait and see just what Levy does after a full season of full houses at the Lane. I accept that s ome will disagree with me but we have been hampered by our ground being shut probably far more then any other club has.

Do not get me wrong Covid is a bitch and it has been for everyone, but we were looking forward to making a lot of money coming into the club and being in a much stronger position then we have ever been in, sadly we still have loans to pay back and very little income ( if any) to be able to do that. If we get full houses this season then there will be NO excuse for Levy not to invest MORE heavily into the team.

As for the new manager appointment i must admit for the first time ever i have/had no favourite choice for a new manager once Jose left. We obviously NEED a massive overall of players and until we get rid of the deadbeats we will always fail to progress. I may be in the minority but for me i think a whoever we get has to be able to attract GOOD/GREAT players and that is why once Conte name came up i was happy to see that happen.

Fair enough. I've a huge amount of respect for your opinions given your involvement in the game and the fact you are allegedly older than the club.

I would say though that you've condemned the players collectively because you think they've downed tools on several managers. You're judging that based on your own interpretation of what youve seen for several years rather than anything explicit that's come out.

A lot of people fed up with Levy or becoming fed up with Levy aren't basing it on what the press or social media say. They're also basing it on their interpretation of what they've seen over several years. This latest sorry story only adds a lot of weight to the theory that Levy is more concerned with business than football.

I've been saying there's a mentality problem at the club from top to bottom for at three years.
That doesn’t mean though that every manager that is a winner is the correct manager for us.
IMHO we need someone that will take us along with them and persuade the board that they compromise is needed.
Not a manager that is going to go in and kick off and call everyone out at the first opportunity.
I have nothing against Conte per se, I just don't see how we fit together.

Huge conspiracy theory incoming

Surely Conte knew what we had to spend. That would have been in the first minutes of conversation.

I always thought the "four members of staff" thing was weird. Was the real issue that Conte wanted to bring in his own medical staff?

Conte's title winning Chelsea team used only 14 players regularly that season. None of them had an injury beyond a knock.

Conte was captain of the EPO Juve team in the mid 90s.

Did this all break down over the club getting wind of Conte's methods?

In a word, no.

One word conjecture … all of this is just conjecture .. no one knows wtf is going on. On one hand people dismiss the media and itk’s as guff then when it suits their narrative they believe it .
All the sources are in it for the clicks nothing else.

Easiest way is to not get too excited till they are signing. Even then i don't. Cause they might not work out. Whoever comes in give them a season to see how they get on.
I've seen us have a lot worse years than the last couple. I get it that people are jealous of other teams success. I don't. Couldn't care less what they get up to. I support spurs always will. It would be great to win loads of trophies but if we don't i'll be a bit dissappointed but then move on. It's been a while since a defeat has destroyed my weekend like it used to.

Doping in football is excused and covered up by the authorities so I doubt it.

Leicester and Liverpool have both doped their way to the PL in recent years, it would be sexy for us to get done for it as soon as we started though.

My info is a bit old but, from what I've heard, performance enhancers tend to increase the number of injuries, not prevent them. Then again, that was back in the 80s-90s, so maybe this is no longer the case.

The Telegraph say Spurs felt the manager’s demands were ‘”unrealistic” in the current financial climate during the coronavirus pandemic’.

Hmmm, if true that sounds like we have very little money to spend.

What is very little? Is £50m very little these days?

I base my opinion on the performance of s ome of the players over the last couple of years, pretty obvious that s ome of them have not given their all IMO. Of course players drop levels as the get older but one or two maybe but we have had several who have done that under Poch and Jose. As for the rest i guess we will have to wait and see, lets hope we get a full season with the ground open, s ome new players to come in and improve the side. Only then will we really know what our future holds. We shall see.

The next manager will be a yes man.

If they'd clearly gone for Potter at the start because he fitted their long term plan and vision then I think fans would have been on board (sure some would have been underwhelmed but the majority could see he could be taken as a Poch lite) but now they've led this merry dance across Europe with seemingly no plan in place for the style of manager they want.

Then we have the Juve DOF who appears to have no credible track record let alone one that fits with our aims and budgets. Juve are a mess financially.

It all smacks of having no proper plan at all - the obvious managers to build with young players and a style of playing would have been Rodgers, Potter or ETH yet seems like Levy is addicted to thinking a big name will cover up for his mistakes.
Sometimes you have a plan and then something crops up that makes you deviate from it. For all we know Levy might've thought with Conte "maybe he can get a tune of of the current squad with a couple of additions for the next 1-2 years and then I start the rebuild."

I mean, who the fudge knows. Some of you are acting like it's the first time in human history that a plan has ever changed. Seriously, get a grip.
