The Jack Pitt-Brooke article shares a lot with what Alasdair Gold says in his latest video, although Gold says he's heard that an announcement may be made before the end of the season.

Gold says that we have no interest in Sarri, Conte or Gasperini.

I do hate this sort of comment - ‘there is also an acceptance they must find a manager befitting the ever-growing profile of the club.’ What does that even mean?! I mean, I know what it means, but eugh, surely it shouldn’t be high up on the list of criteria we’re benchmarking against?

I’m not surprised re the Italian managers, whose links sound spurious at best.

I am pleased with the supposed criteria though. They should've used the same criteria last time too. We need to have an identity at the club and recruit players and managers who fit that. Mourinho was never going to be a match and we were never going to have the budget that he requires to be successful (if he can anymore). Letting him rip up our sports science team and video analysis was just vandalism.

I agree. Just get the best man for the job. Someone with footballing insight, leadership skills, hunger, professionalism etc. Their status is a distraction.

Yep - Pochettino/Redknapp/Jol all worked because they were the right fit for the job and had the required abilities as a coach/man manager to make it work, whereas the ones that failed didn't - status counts for nothing once you're in the job
 
I understand that the job may be too ‘big’ for someone - like a Mason see Lampard not having the hard times’ experience to fall back on - but at the same time, don’t worry about the ‘status’ of the club for chrissake - just get the best person in who will get us playing attractive, front foot football, unite the fan base, and coach the players to be greater than the sum of their parts in a proper system. It’s not rocket science!

If you do all of that, the status of the club takes care of itself…

Wish it worked like that

- It is harder for managers to be successful if there is additional fan/media pressure from the start (shouldn't be, but that is how it is). It creates noise, questions, etc.

So it's not purely about the club status, it's about making sure the manager has the best chance of success, and part of that is making sure they bring enough to the table to quiet the noise, get player buy in, hopefully have fans onside, etc.

Mason wouldn’t come with additional pressure as he isn’t an icon or a player who achieved big things. That’s where Lampard fell over IMO

but the last paragraph is absolutely spot on

Or can even work against you - as in the case of Mourinho. He had too much baggage. Its often better to have a fresh open approach and work with the reality in front of you, rather than try to impose your set package onto a side. When Mourinho's default way of playing didn't work, the instructions and playing balance became compromised. We were neither one thing or the other, with complex instructions.

So a manager who can work with what we have to start with is vital. We need to be on the front foot as we don't have a strong defensive backline. We are still the Poch side that defends from the front. We should be able to switch into a low block at times, but we need to push up the pitch too when we can. We look more dynamic playing in the opposition half.
 
Spoke to my Dad this morning and he said one of his old agent friends had told him that the Seville manager is the man that the Spurs hierarchy want and that the attraction is mutual.

My Dad was adamant that we were on the verge of signing Fernando Morientes back when Hoddle was our manager, I told all my mates he was signing for us and then looked stupid when it didn't happen.

We had completed the financial legal work (securing the transfer instalments etc). Typically that is done at the very end when the deal is pretty much fully agreed. Either the player had a change or heart or we couldn't meet his financial demands that was considered a formality through the initial agent chat.
