Indeed like telling them to stop taking the tinkle and play like proper footballers who turn up in big games. Too many players in the squad are on nice juicy long contracts which has led to easy street. Coupled with a poor squad they know there's no competition and all they have to do is turn up to training to get their appearance bonus.

Quite frankly, I couldn't care less if our new boss enjoys wearing women's underwear, eats brick (Chuck Berry did and he'll rock forever!) or kneels down before a portrait of Hitler before going to bed every night. A lot of talented people are pretty much on the edge if not over the edge of the fudging spectrum.

The real question is can they keep in check enough that it isn't a problem PR wise or is actually affecting other people.

Rodgers is a nutter, but Poch kept fudging lemons in his office for the bad juju (any idea how crazy that is?)

Not sure you read/listen to the media mate? there were a bunch of features on why Jose was washed up, never going to get a job in a major league again and his only hold out was for a national team job.

I'll be the asshole -> too bad Poch didn't get his job as quickly and save us the cash ..

It is a very stupid and offensive statement to me and I suspect other Africans as it is a very unnecessary assuming statement. Why would a village effect a player's thinking? I have read the other comments on this thread and shook my head. It may not be racist but if my manager said that - I would be having discussions with HR.

That statement is so patronising. I am getting offended. Really - how many transfers have you heard that this occured? This is similar to that idiotic French TV host who asked Chimamanda Adichie if there are libraries in Nigeria or something similar! Her response is equally apt in this case. There is a difference between family wanting a transfer which is common and a village!!

Patronising, sure - racist I can’t see it.

How many transfers have I heard of with pressures from the players home town/village? If that’s the question - I think it does depend on the nation involved.

Poch had done 5 and a bit years straight (after also coming to us with no break). Mourinho has had numerous breaks after being sacked by various other clubs and had only been working for a year and a bit since his last bit of time off after his last sacking....

I think but don't know as I don't know the man but I think he was suggesting that a player was under pressure to move(as often happens from agents) because the is a strong culture of Africans sending money back to Africa when working in Europe.

I had an Angolan working for me on a Portuguese passport when I ran a logistics firm a few years ago. Lovely hard working guy, he was very open about sending all his money back there, and why shouldn't he be, it was his money to do as he pleased with.

My understanding is the is a sort of cultural expectation that people will help out their family and villages/hometown when they emigrate to Europe. I have also seen similar in bbc news articles over the years. If it is well known that immigrants from less economically developed countries send money home is it such a stretch to think people that stood to gain money from a transfer would be keen for it to happen.

African players do loads for their Home countries and towns
Even tools like ade who act the show off are quite humble when it comes to home
I think it’s very admirable

It may sound patronising.
But it may also be true. This is a manager merely saying that his experience in dealing with many (not all) of the players he's encountered in Europe from Africa is that they use the fruits of their labour to support their family and the community from which they came.
It's not a negative thing.
