The more I think about it….

Yep, we have way more ball players than we give ourselves credit for. Is there a better ball playing centre half than Romero in the league?

The problem is when you put one or two non ball players in with 8 or 9 outfield players you can get problems. We have more than one or two and the some of our ball players make some really bad decisions in the moment.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love an Alonso, but I fear a Xavi wouldn’t jive with the culture in our club.

I want Poch, here's my reasoning.
He knows what he's walking into. Yes the club changed after levy but there is so much more to the club than the high ups.

He's a CB, he will get the best out of our defence.
He's also Argentinian, the same as our captain an opportunity to forge a relationship.

He has a very good relationship with Gallagher, a player to build his mid field around.

He can point to his record of developing players, not just here but at Chelsea to get buy in from gray, Bergvall, tel etc.

After Frank Kudus, Simmons, kulu and Maddison will all be rejuvenated with his desire to attack.

But most importantly I want him because he wants to be here, he's not coming because of the money, it's not a stepping stone, he's not filling in until the next big job becomes available, he's here because he wants to be.

I also think he's probably the best that at this moment in time we could attract.

The sticking point is....we can't attract him at this moment.

The vastly experienced German coach is back on the market after being dismissed by Benfica at the start of the 2024–25 season.

Roger Schmidt’s teams are typically thrilling to watch, and his Benfica side were often unmissable—particularly during their title-winning 2022–23 campaign.

While Schmidt has since taken up a role as the J.League’s Global Football Advisor, a return to management should not be ruled out if the right opportunity arises.
