Indeed, there were some comments at the time about the new facility.

But they were all incidental.

There is no doubt that there will be some kind of big launch in the next week or two - at the very least on the official site and in all club publications but, most likely, also in the national media.

Expect lots of pics.....finally!

Re: New stadium and training ground thread - Pg 74 Haringey Council plans 2025

PS - will the OS be doing a big feature on the new training ground. Be nice to see some pictures and videos and hear the thoughts of players on it.

One would like to think so.

The official site has galleries for Jan, Feb and Mar 2012 (link) but nothing more recent. There were those pictures published on a Spurs site in July, but they were taken down very quickly. Its as if its a top secret nuclear facility, except then there would be leaks. The US Government couldn't stop Wikileaks, but Spurs have shut down all information on the new training centre.

I think it was on Football Focus on Saturday that they had a feature on the new FA training centre (st georges park) that has opened recently. Much of it looked very familiar in comparison to the leaked internal photos of our new centre in Enfield and without gloating some of our areas (eg elite changing area) looks better.

I presume much of the exercise, treatment, training, pitch, areas and equipment and the theory behind building design and layout is pretty much best in class at this level.

Although we (rightfully) think it looks the nuts, at this level it looks as though this is the standard to be expected.

The thing to congratulate the club on is that we are at this level.

My own club has ties to West Brom and the WBA coaches were over a few months back to give us a master class on their coaching techniques. Anyway the same coaches had been in to see the new Spurs training facility during some inter-club-reach-around-thing and they basically said the new Spurs facility is the best in the country at the moment bar none.

Why has the sky bar been removed? Sounds quite nice.

Lennon just tweeted that he's been there today and his reaction was just 'wow'.

is that the bridge above the 'north' stand linking the other building ? i guess there were plans to have a roof top bar there as well ?

The sky bar was a modification to the original plan on top of the supermarket. I don't remember the bridge clearly, but I think it was a direct link (or bridge) between this bar area and the stadium concourse areas. Jimmyb can correct or add to this description.

Yep. Shortlived idea I think.

Actually, I'm a bit confused!

The pic appears to be of the northern development - which, last we heard, was meant to consist of the supermarket, some office space and the "brand centre" (whatever that means). Yet, if you click on the link:

...you'll see that the building in the picture is the "University Technical College of Haringey".

And, as far as I was aware, the college was originally planned for the southern development.

P.S. You're right that the bridge was originally designed just as a link between the stadium and the skybar area.

I'm sure that the Olympic stadium will get added corporate seats. But nothing like as many as Wembley's for the simple reason that it won't stage anything like as many major sporting events as Wembley.

Wembley is exceptional because 17,000 of the 90,000 seats are corporate - a significantly higher proportion than at any other stadium. Furthermore, as the national stadium, it stages mostly major events (as opposed to mere league games). It also has broader appeal, since the events it hosts aren't limited to just one club. So it is especially attractive to corporate clients.

Even so, I doubt that 80% figure. For starters, it's very hard to calculate, given that most of the corporate packages were sold on ten year terms. Besides which, the maths just doesn't add up, IMO. Given Wembley's high prices, a sellout would generate at least £3 million in normal ticket sales. Which would mean that Wembley's 17,000 corporate seats would have to generate £12 million of sales per match in order to account for 80% of match day income. Or £705 per seat. And there's no way that the FA could charge anything like that much for the large majority of the 17,000 corporate seats.

Most of that post is just wrong.

The Olympic Stadium will probably hold far more major events than Wembley. Internationals and Cup Finals will always be held there, but Stratford will be competing to hold the other events as contracts come up for renewal - rugby, NFL etc. However, ultimately it's a venue's ability to attract a diverse range of event owners or promoters (not just male dominated sports) that determine it's hospitality sales potential. That's why the O2 smashes even Wembley's high percentage of corporate revenue.

The post-development Olympic Stadium will be a direct competitor for both the O2 and Wembley. The leading proposal for that part of the site actually has 3 music venues, and with LiveNation as a partner it will be holding a huge number of events alongside what will probably be both football and rugby tenants in the main stadium. The lack of hospitality facilities is widely known in the events industry as a massive issue.

The 80% figure isn't hard to calculate either - it's in the FA's Financial Statements which are publically available.

1. There will be no major rugby games at the Olympic stadium. For the simple reason that there is no such thing as a major rugby game other than an international. And there is no way that England internationals will be held anywhere other than at Twickenham.

2. NFL? Possible, I suppose. But one or two games a year. Or, in the event that London was ever to be granted an NFL franchise - urggghhh, let's hope not - 8 games a year. And they still wouldn't be as big or as important or as in demand or as lucrative as Wembley's major occasions. That's all assuming that the Olympic stadium would win the right to be the NFL's stadium of choice. I'm not at all sure that it would.

3. There will be a limited number of concerts at the Olympic stadium. It's an outdoor venue that will be surrounded by a huge number of new homes. It simply won't get planning permission for a "huge number" of music events.

4. No one is suggesting that the Olympic stadium won't get additional corporate facilities. Just that it won't get the same high proportion that Wembley has.

5. The FA accounts that I saw suggested that corporate ticket sales account for considerably less than 80% of overall ticket sales.

Yes the college was in the plans for the southern development. Iirc, the bottom levels were parking and then a couple floors with the college and other office type spaces. Maybe its a change due to the wider post-riot plan with the college part of the scheme extended. Or perhaps they have rearranged things so they can add extra housing units in the southern development. Or perhaps its just another more PR friendly name for the brand centre.

The Sky Bar with an enclosed bridge to the stadium were in the original plans which were approved in 2010. Earlier this year a revised planning application was approved for the northern development which replaced the Sky Bar with space for educational, stadium-related and brand centre uses but the link bridge was still retained in those plans. The bridge is probably a bit unnecessary but I haven’t seen anything saying it was being dropped so I was a little puzzled that it wasn’t in the recent render.

Re: New stadium and training ground thread - Pg 74 Haringey Council plans 2025

The plans for the southern development did, and as far as I know still do, include space to be occupied by college, health centre and health club uses. The approved plans for the northern development were for parking and the supermarket on the lower floors and space for educational, stadium-related and brand centre uses on the upper floors. I think it's that educational space that they're labelling as "University Technical College of Haringey"'.
