Nacer Chadli

Developed in Holland though. Chadli was pretty much dumped by Standard Liege and popped up at now bankrupt AGOVV Apeldoorn. Similar story with Dries Mertens.

The 2 guys have come a long way since then.

Chadli`s agent does state he is unaware if talks are happening between ourselves and FC Twente about his client via @JeroenKapteijns.
 
apparently we are quite advanced with this whilst haggling over a fee.. really don't know much about him.
 
He scored a great free kick against us. I remember that. Physically looked strong.. and not your usual Lennon, Walcott midget flyer.. probably more like Liverpool winger Albert Riera or dare I say Bale in terms of physique.

but this is what happens to us every year. we refuse to pay a little bit extra for a player. If we really want Chadli we'd pay it, Baldini or AVB would know exactly what type of player he is and how he could improve our squad as a whole, if he's as good as they think then surely the extra bit of cash should be paid? fudge what Levy wants, if AVB wants it for his team that he thinks can challenge, then fudging pay it.

each individual deal has to be looked at on its own merits..........for example, Christian Eriksen has one year left on his deal at Ajax and reportedly Ajax want 9 mill pounds. If Spurs were interested in him, why waste time offering 7.25 mill. Anyway 9 mill represents an absolute bargain because of his contract situation. Some deals are too good to be true and time shouldnt be wasted trying to get an even better deal. Ok in the spirit of wanting to negotiate make a counter offer, but make it closer to what the selling club want, in this example 8.5 mill and quickly come to an agreement in the middle of 8.75 mill. Everyone is happy

The idea might be sound, but you look at the other extreme, e.g. Pool, yes they get a lot of their players, but they end up with a huge pool of players that are overpriced and extremely difficult to shift/move on.

The fact is, our financials indicate that we are doing things the right way, and the fact that we have had Bale, Modric, Berbatov, VDV, Carrick, Ade, Lloris, Sandro, Paulinho as current or recent players shows we can get players with the strategy

You are over simplifying this here.

Take it from the point of view of the player (and more importantly his agent). Let's just say for arguments sake that the player is currently on £20k a week at Ajax and Spurs had an £8 million fee agreed for the player and then offered the player £50k a week wages. Over a 5 year contract that is a cost to Spurs of £21 million.

If the player waits for a year and goes on a Bosman then that same £21 million package equates to £80k a week all going to the player (and agent). Theoretically the player is accepting £30k a week less for one year to then earn an extra £30k a week for 5 years thereafter.

What typically happens in this scenario is that the agent starts negotiating a deal based around that £80k a week. The selling club then often have to compromise in terms of the transfer fee demanded.

The default position in this scenario is always the buying club saying: "We can sign this player on a pre-contract deal for free in 6 months time. You then have an un-interested player for a further six months that you are paying £20k a week for".

Of course in the case of Erickson it seems slightly different as he has stated that he wouldn't want Ajax not to profit from his sale. However that is very rare in this day and age of agents trying to maximise revenue for their clients (and probably, more importantly, themselves).
