Micky van de Ven

Let's see what the issue said at the press conference for the match this weekend.

I haven't seen anyone else report the same yet

Well we can only wait for confirmation or not. But if its true it is becoming more likely we have another Ledley on our hands

This can't be right, there is no way we have this many injuries to players who don't get injured much anywhere else. It's clearly Ange's brick training.

He had one hamstring injury before Joining Spurs.
Postecoglu has had a problem with hamstring injuries at all clubs he's managed at. I suspect it is a combination of:
1) player is physically/genetically prone to them as a starter.
2) said players are then subjected to training/playing style that involves a lot of sprints and changes of direction (which is inherent in the postecoglu system).
3) points 1 and 2 are exacerbated by the teams injury problems this season where coaching staff have brought players back too early and exacerbated the injuries. This can create scarring and inflationary damage and create a chronic problem with nerves feeding the muscles i have experienced this myself recently.
Wortb noting the hamstring is a strange muscle as it is only really used at all to any great extent when sprinting and so when you could have a problem with your hamstring and not know about it until you do the quick sprint and then you feel it straight away. It's why some athletes find it hard to come back from them as they are doing light or even normal training.and think they're fine and then go into a match situation and twang it again straight away. Wouldn't be surprised if VDV's euro reappearance was far too soon AGAIN. Not been seen since.....

I'm not a medical guy, but I do know that the hamstring is 3 muscles - biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus.

I'm not sure whether there is a pattern in where the hamstring injuries are occurring based on the 3 muscles. Ange has probably also brought fast athletes into his setup as well. That inevitably makes them more susceptible.

Even with VDV, we know it is same leg but we don't know whether it is a repeat of one of those 3 muscles. Of course they are designed to work together so if one isn't, my guess is that it would impact another.

playing style imo

villa first goal we are attacking and don't care about numbers in midfield. we lose the ball and one villa guy carries the ball for 30m with 5 players chasing him but unable to get to him, lays it off for a shot and goal.

in more structured teams - either covering space or marking players you'd imagine 2 chasing after him and the rest getting into position. its a mess everytime we lose the ball up front. and unfortunately for ange, he only plays one way - we look poor sitting deep with structured teams cutting out passing lanes in the midfield (vs liverpool, zero shots on target)

The third player taking a dive and just ducking out till June now the season is dead?
The hell?
Why would you say that?
Why make that negative assumption - you could equally have said that Mickey might be having shaky mental-health and the club is being careful and discrete with him.
We don't know and, until the club says something (which they are not obliged to), it's all-too easy for anonymous big-mouths to fill the gap.

I agree. It's almost that one minor mistake can have such a snowball effect in an Ange setup.

The initial root causes in that goal is Mikey Moore not shutting down correctly. The snowball effect is Porro then overdoing the press, Bents vacating the centre to shift to the right to cover those two. As it carries on and Luca Digne releases the ball, the rest are chasing a shadow in the centre of the park, where Bents could have been. Kulu, the 3rd midfielder is out of the game. It's Bergval's turn next to make a tough decision. In the 6 position, stay central and block the runner or go right and block out the inevitable pass. He can't win. In the mean time, Danso has overshot and ended up 5-10 yards behind Gray and Spence who are holding a good line. That means their receiver can't be caught offside and we end up then receiving the ball and getting a shot away. Obviously, Kinsky makes his own mistake as well.

I've said this a lot but the ceiling for Ange's system is probably higher. It is very complex though, especially for tired minds and bodies.

Tired minds, tired bodies. But also for the Villa game for example with 4 (?) teenagers starting. First start for Tel. Still a rather rare start for 17 year old Moore. Bergvall imo has weaknesses in his positional game.

These factors weren't there in the first part of the season and the system worked much better.
