Maserati - Would you?

Mate we have spoken about this before, give up the alfa. My life got so much better when I stopped driving them. :)

Mate the 4C is amazing. I sold the spider a while ago but now im ready for the 4C. Ill be waiting till the Convertible comes out though which may well be another year or two which is annoying. Im ready for a car.

Isn't an Audi just a Seat,VW, Skoda in a different shell?

Pretty much.

Their marketing department has to be one of the best in the business. Without changing what they do they've managed to get some people talking about their cars in the same breath as BMW and Mercedes instead of Mondeos and Passats. It's a work of sheer genius.

Seat are slightly different, their engines, although under the same company, are not the same - nowhere near as good.

I too dont get Audi. Ill stick with my passat.

As an Audi owner I'd have to agree with how average they are. I have a 10 year old TT with less than 70k on it and have nothing but problems with the damn thing. The car itself is nice inside but no better than my VW Golf and reliability is shocking.

In the 5 years I've had it I've had to replace about 3 coil packs, the lamda (sp?) sensor the entire xenon headlamp washing kit and also have an issue where the car runs rough if not warmed up properly on the previous run as well as the petrol gauge reading 50% extra fuel than it has. It also started throwing out hot air when the aircon was on 18c the other day, hasn't done that since though. I just can't see a true premium car having this many different issues.

As for the OP, the Ghibli looks fantastic, go for it!

So are we all just moneybags or are these prestige cars a bit more affordably priced up your way. Talking $100k plus for some of the cars you're talking about, Maseratis especially.

I'm in the market for a new car soon but thinking Jeep. Would love a VW Toureg but a bit rich for my blood I think.

I think they call them a ute in your country mate. Gday.

The diesel Ghibli is going to be around £48k - around the same as a specced up 5 series.

It's a good bit of money, but for reference it's less than 1.5 times the average salary over here.

As a company car I guess that's around the middle-upper management level - certainly not moneybags territory here.

I just took a look at the 4C... it has acne?!

What are those lights all about... pimples and zits on its face!

The lights look nice when they are on, but when they are off it looks crap

How dare you... you shallow bastard... you saying you wouldnt shag Kelly brook with a few spots? Blasphemous man.

Theyre the LED lights I suspect. It is a gorgeous car but the convertible will be better albeit a tad more pricier... I best get saving

I used to have an A4 cabriolet (10 years ago) and I agree to an extent that it can be a bit temperamental. I didnt have too many issues apart from the engine coils which apparently was a known issue (around same time as your TT), got these replaced every year free of charge, then again the car did cost 30k so I would ****in expect them to have replaced them.

The lights do look a bit odd, other than that it's a lovely looking car. 45k though aren't they DFS?

Got an audi A6 very nice car, comfortable, economical, has some road presence, lovely place to sit and every gadget you could want , not getting the hate for Audis here.

I tend to change my car every year/couple of years but hope to keep this one for a bit.... Plus it's time I grow up a little ;)

As for the mazza.... If you can afford it, go for it, lovely looking car... With a proper badge to it.... A step up from the mercs, bmws and audis for sure

Yep its reported around 45k as such. Im waiting for the convertible which I imagine to cost around 5k more. Ive started to save my pennies in a piggy bank haha. Its a bit pricey for an alfa but im guessing theyre targeting the Lotuses of this world.

Its a car id **** haha

I don't think there's any hate here.

I can only speak for myself when I say I'm merely bemused that they've conned people into doing what you did there and grouping Audis with "added value" brands.

Audi make very good cars, so do Ford and Volkswagen. BMW and Mercedes make very good cars that people aspire to own.

Take an extreme example with Rolls Royce. A Phantom is a much better car than a Mondeo. It's more comfortable, it's faster, it has a better build quality, etc. But is it £280k better than a Mondeo? I think you'd be hard pushed to justify the extra on that basis alone.

The difference is all in the brand. To a lesser extent this is the same with Mercedes, BMW and Audi in that order. There's an intangible extra in the way owning that car makes you feel and in what it tells people about you.

It's why Tom Ford shirts are worth owning. The guy who makes my every day shirts can cut one exactly the same from equally good material for a third of the price, but if I'm really dressing up for something special - it's Tom Ford all the way.

I ended up buying an immaculate 2005 Quatroporte last year. Full leather , the works. It is an amazing car and for $25000 with only 53000 miles on the clock an absolute bargain. I had a 911 years ago and prefer the Maserati but I am no car expert. I just always wanted a Maserati, so figured how could I go wrong at this price?

The only thing I would say is that servicing, is expensive, spares and tyres are out of the wazoo and it drinks gas, although I'm only paying $3.50 a gallon or so. It's been a bit like a 'free puppy' not much initial investment but when I have to spend on it , it get's heavy.

America is full of rich men's cast off's and I'm not too proud to take their leavings. It's crap as a family car but as a car to hit the freeway in and just drive, its ace. I cannot compare it to a top end BMW or Merc as I've never owned one but it will do for me. I love and and can recommend but then as I said I know sweet FA about cars.
