Lucas Bergvall

Unless there were injury/fitness concerns quite a big call from Ange to start him against United over Bissouma and Sarr. Of course given recent form not such a big call, but still an 18 year old starting with other options available. And starting as part of a rather attacking midfield.

Thought he did really well, particularly on the ball. Perhaps still some way to go on the positional/defensive side, but didn't notice any standout issues on that in the game. Really a rather mature performance on the ball where he also showed some of his quality.

If we get enough fit wide/attacking players to move Kulusevski back to midfield alongside Maddison I'm guessing Bergvall will find himself back on the bench in the not too distant future. But hopefully we'll have a lot of EL games and what a wonderful option to have on the bench he will be.

One move yesterday where he did a shoulder drop and completely sold the United player, was hilarious ...
To be fair that was probably on Casemiro who could be shoulder dropped by a fridge these days.

That's not to take anything away from Bergvall who did really well mind. We know he can do that against players who can move too.

a bit of messi vibes from bergvall - the way he runs with the ball to tease opponents into stretching for it, then calmly reaches it first. no stepovers, just pure situational awareness, instinct and courage

slowly and surely he is taking more risks and pushing higher forward, as he gets used to the league. what a great first season he's having.

if we don't start featuring in CL soon and i am very sure barca or real will be quick to come for him.

Already a better player at 19 than the CMs he replaced in the summer and will grow even better over the coming years

His ascension/learning curve since Nov has been incredible. I felt he'd need a loan in January. He just took all the hard lessons he was learning on, and wow, what a player he is going to be when he fully matures. I think there's a bit if visual bias here, but he has Frenkie De Jong vibes to me...

I haven’t been as taken with him as some — I think he’s shown glimpses but ultimately he is what he is, a 19 year old learning to play Premier League football. But today he was really good. He will come out of this insane period of matches and injuries with so much.

Sometimes they just need to play. The old adage "if they are good enough they are old enough" has always and will always be true. Younger players lack experience not quality, and some of them can overwhelm their lack of experience with sheer quality.

Really good performance, again for me. But one of his best so far. Think he's developing both in his positional game and also making good decisions on when to use his skill and more attacking qualities and when to keep it simple.

Absolutely wonderful talent, already a very good player.

Looking back at his videos from his time in Sweden, you could see he had all the talent in the world, a two (swift) footed, head up player, who sees the pitch and can be devastating plus scores goals.

But it's nice to see he's perfectly happy doing the hard yards, mixes it physically with anyone, and has an engine to support all this.

We are seeing him grow in confidence and importantly comfort, evidenced by beginning to see some of the type of play I referenced in my first paragraph.

He's got the potential to be any type of CM he cares.
