Josh Onomah

What strikes me watching the highlights, apart from the stunning goal and pink shirts, is how Onomoah now looks more grown up - in his cameos for us, he was a kid. Now he's a man. He looks and plays more maturely.

Edit: Sorry for the autocorrect's early er inclusion of apartheid in this post. Obviously that was totally uncalled for.

Reading their fans comments, they seem torn between having him or Hourihane in CM. Whelan is their DM and they aren't confident of giving Onomah a chance over him despite his age.

Started for Villa today and was named MOTM in the local paper.

They give him a note of 9/10 for the performance.

Bruce says, he would love to sign him permanently and would break the bank for him.

However the Birmingham Mail indicate that the chances of signing him are slim.

@Cochise has already mentioned it, but this is surprising to me in light of the way Villa fans were talking about him last week - on Villatalk, it seemed like they were in two minds about him. 'Talented, but lazy/tactically unaware/anonymous at times' was the dominant view, I think.

Maybe he's finally turned it on over the last week?

Or maybe some football fans on Internet forums haven’t got a scooby?

do you know where he played? It seems that all his best performances are at CM rather than AM - just wondering if this is the case here.

I think the comment re. Forums actually holds some weight. However having a villa season ticket holder as a close friend I would summarise as he started the season wonderfully well and stood out as their best player and a cut above over the first 6 weeks. He then got an injury and the teams form picked up meaning he was restricted to sub appearances and the odd start playing in a more advanced role and he seemed to get mixed reviews. I think he has had a couple of crap performances (to be expected in a young player, esp Ina team struggling for form) but he has also put in several MOTM performances and the last few weeks he has impressed again.

Overall villa fans say he looks too good for this level and if he is more consistent then he will come back to spurs as a first team player. In terms of his development, he needs this. I have watched him since 13 or 14 and I still believe (like several spurs coaches) that he was the talent to go into be a first team regular for us - eclipsing the likes of winks in the process. Time will tell but I would love for him to get 5 games in a row for us in midfield to show fans what he's about. He is potentially a star.

Guessing we might call him back in January given the injuries to central midfielders.
Was thinking the same. Another 2-3 months for Villa might be enough to learn and develop far enough to be ready to play a part in our squad.
I reckon he will get the season. We may get Barkley in January.
Could be. But I don't quite see why the two are connected.

It's not really in attacking midfield we're lacking players. And even though people keep claiming that Barkley will develop into a deeper player I'd put my money on Onomah to step up quicker after half a season of regular football for Villa than Barkley will develop into a new role after that long without playing at all.
