That is why I was so peeved that Levy pulled the trigger so quickly when we had our dip. I would've much preferred that he instead entrusted him with the rebuild. All water under the bridge now of course.
One of my reasons for wanting a young, project manager (combined with a great DoF) at present is that I think we need a DoF & manager pairing who can make a team that is greater than the sum of its cost and its parts to be able to punch above our weight (which we need to do if we're to get back to the (financial) holy grail of the Champions League.
There were a lot of fans who wanted Poch out
There were a lot of fans whose sole measure is trophies
They still exist except now they want Jose out
But we are where are now. Levy made his call and he has made some right ones and some wrong ones
When things are going bad the wrong ones come to the fore and are highlighted, which is natural
Personally I made it clear I blamed the players not Poch. I still do
I believe ... just my opinion... that levy may have viewed the failings of quite a lot of the signings that failed and balanced that with the need to invest in a new squad (Poch raised that himself). Don’t forget a lot of the failed signings never really got many games to prove themselves in the end
And maybe he took a view that if we’re gonna buy our way to a refresh why not get in a guy with a record of buying success (the common thing thrown at Jose)
Of course then COVIDS done a Spurs and the whole landscapes changed
Some of it could have course been rectified by having a DOF and a more consistent strategy and approach but he, for whatever reason, didn’t do that
I believe that still needs rectifying
